Punjab IG Rao Sardar Ali Khan announced Saturday that 118 men were arrested for the murder and burning of a Sri Lankan national. The arrest list included 13 prime suspects in the Sialkot lynching. IG Punjab and government spokesperson briefed the media in Lahore on the investigation into the Sialkot incident. In the last 24 hours, police conducted raids in over 200 areas of the city.
The Chief Minister’s Strategic Reforms unit recently introduced Phase II of its “Women on Wheels, Motorbike Subsidy Scheme” project. The company plans to give away 3,000 motorcycles at a subsidized rate to women. The campaign was launched in partnership with both the Transport Department and the Bank of Punjab, according to a press release. Motorcycles will be awarded through a merit-based balloting process.
The Education Body of the National Assembly unanimously recommended approval of the “Islamabad Women University Bill, 2021”. Ali Nawaz Awan, a member of the national assembly, initiated the bill, which was approved by the Senate. A Twitter account affiliated with Pakistan’s embassy in Serbia criticized Imran Khan on Friday. Tweet citing rising inflation and alleged non-payment of salaries for three months. The Foreign Office issued a statement two hours later saying the embassy’s social media accounts had been hacked. The tweets were subsequently deleted. The tweet also included a parody song with the catchphrase “Ghabrana Nahi hai.”
A Sri Lankan national was killed in Sialkot after being tortured to death. A mob of hundreds attacked the foreign national over allegations of blasphemy, and his body was set ablaze. Initial reports indicate that the incident happened on Wazirabad Road, Sialkot. According to reports, the Sri Lankan worked as an export manager for a local factory.
Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry said he hoped two million Pakistanis would go abroad for jobs in the next two years. He claimed that in spite of the Covid-19 pandemic, Pakistan sent over 1.1 workers abroad. During the past three years, 569,870 Pakistanis have gone to Saudi Arabia for work, according to the minister’s statistics.
Gallup and Gilani Pakistan conducted a recent survey and found that divorce rates in Pakistan are at an all-time high. According to the study, 58 percent of Pakistanis think the divorce rate has increased in the country. A majority of people believe in-laws are a major cause of divorces. Divorce cases are also expected to increase due to the COVID-19 pandemic, especially in 2020 and 2021.

Holy Quran Publishers Association President Kashif Iqbal warned against the use of substandard paper by certain publishers. Following the Supreme Court’s decision to make the study of the Holy Quran a compulsory subject in educational institutions, publishers are taking advantage of increased demand. He said unregistered publishers are violating rules by publishing Quran on non-standard paper.
The Sindh High Court heard from a team of six veterinary experts Tuesday that the four African elephants are healthy. However, some immediate and long-term measures are needed to address their dietary, dental, and other issues. One of the four elephants believed to be male turned out to be female during a checkup.
