New media authority can fine TV channels up to Rs250 million

Fawad Chaudhry, the Minister for Information and Broadcasting, has stated that the proposed Pakistan Media Development Authority (PMDA) will be authorized to fine TV channels up to Rs250 million. Fawad said that there are currently seven laws regulating the media in Pakistan. According to him, all the laws were being abolished and replaced with the PMDA, a single authority.

Punjab govt bans entry of Tiktokers into all public parks

The Punjab Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) on Sunday banned all TikTokers from entering public parks after the Minar-e-Pakistan incident. PHA officials took the decision during a meeting in Lahore on Sunday. PHA reportedly issued a statement stating that all Tiktokers need permission prior to entering parks. Furthermore, the PHA is considering banning more than two men in public parks.

Pakistan’s scrabble prodigy Syed Emad Ali wins world youth title in Karachi

Pakistan’s Syed Emad Ali became the first player to win the World Youth Scrabble Championship twice by winning the event on Sunday. In the finals, Emad Ali defeated his opponents in nine of thirteen games. Moreover, Pakistan’s Hisham Hadi Khan finished 7th after winning seven games. The championship was held in Pakistan for the second time in a row due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Aafia Siddiqui, a Pakistani neuroscientist, has appealed for public support following a serious violent assault at FMC Carswell in Fort Worth, Texas. Lawyers for Aafia Siddiqui report that she was assaulted by an inmate who threatened her during an earlier visit. The inmate smashed a mug filled with scalding hot liquid into her face.

Gwadar suicide attack kills 3, injures including Chinese national

A suicide attack in Pakistan’s southwest Balochistan province killed two children and injured three others on Friday. A Chinese national was wounded in the suicide blast, confirmed the Chinese embassy in Pakistan. Liaquat Shahwani, a spokesman for the Balochistan government, said a suicide bomber targeted a car carrying Chinese nationals.

DSP, SHO, & other senior officers suspended for negligence in TikToker assault case

The Punjab government has removed several senior officers following the horrific assault on the TikToker in Lahore’s Greater Iqbal Park. DIG Operations Sajid Kayani, SSP Operations Syed Nadeem Abbas, and Additional SP Operations Hassan Jahangir were removed from their posts. Meanwhile, DSP Badami Bagh Usman Haider and SHO Lorry Adda Mohammad Jamil were suspended.

Magisterial Court grants bail to accused in Ranjit Singh statue defacement case

The individual who is alleged to have vandalized the statue of Sikh ruler Maharaja Ranjit Singh at the Lahore Fort was granted pre-arrest bail on Friday.  The accused’s counsel told the court that police recovered a hammer from the accused.  According to him, the FIR was registered under sections that allow for bail. 

CPO Lahore reveals multiple arrests of people spotted during Minar-e-Pakistan incident

The CCPO Lahore announced that 35 people have been arrested for their role in the attack and harassment of a woman in Greater Iqbal Park. The CCPO has also received information regarding other people involved in the incident. More arrests will be made as soon as fresh evidence has been obtained.

Karachi man infected by deadly Naegleria Fowleri via tap water

A 38-year-old man with a Naegleria Fowleri infection was admitted to the intensive care unit at Ziauddin Hospital in Karachi on Tuesday. There have been seven reports of Naegleria infections in the city this year. The report prepared by the Regional Disease Surveillance and Response Unit stated piped water as the main risk factor. Moreover, Naegleria Fowleri is commonly known as the “brain-eating amoeba.”
