Agreement between Russia & Pakistan to build pipeline from Karachi to Lahore is biggest deal in decades

Russia & Pakistan signed a deal to build a major gas pipeline connecting southern Karachi port with industrial hubs in the north. According to media reports, it’s the biggest deal between Moscow and Islamabad since the 1970s. On Friday, Russia’s Energy Minister Nikolay Shulginov and Pakistan’s Ambassador, Shafqat Ali Khan, signed a revised agreement for the project. Moreover, the project is now open for construction.

Punjab‌ ‌government‌ ‌to provide monthly stipends to transgender people

The Punjab government will pay monthly stipends to transgenders under a new social protection program. Firdous Ashiq Awan, Special Assistant to Punjab Chief Minister on Information, made the announcement in Lahore while talking to the media with Jamal Nasir Cheema, Vice Chairman, Punjab Social Protection Authority. Moreover, she added that transgender people are a part of society and would receive a monthly stipend.

Reports on social media alleging gang-rape of Christian girl turn out to be false propaganda

On May 24, a hashtag trended on Pakistani Twitter, asking for #JusticeforSunitaMasih. Social media users have shared an image of a 14-year-old girl who was gang-raped and forced to convert to Islam in Faisalabad. However, news of the case was published on local media & celebrities retweeted it to demand a Justice of Sunita Masih. Consequently, Faisalabad’s SSP stated that he had no information regarding such an incident.

Islamabad aims to become the gold standard for digitally-enabled public schools after signing an MOU with Google and Tech Valley. It is part of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s vision for a digitally transformed Pakistan, called “Digital Pakistan.” Moreover, Tech Valley is going to implement Google Work Space based on cloud computing infrastructure in 200 schools across Islamabad Capital Territory.

Reko Diq case: International court unfreezes PIA assets

British Virgin Islands: The High Court of Justice has unfrozen PIA’s assets in a case initiated by Tethyan Copper Company (TCC) for attachment of Pakistan’s assets in the Reko Diq case. In December last year, HCJ Justice Gerd Wall Bank froze a 40 percent stake in Minhal Inc., Roosevelt Hotel in New York, and Scribe Hotel in Central Paris at the request of the TCC.

KPK‌ ‌government‌ ‌to‌ ‌raise minimum wage for all public and private employees by 25%

The KPK government has increased minimum wages by Rs 4000 for public and private workers. With the new change in place, the monthly wage for daily workers will be increased from RS 17000 to RS 21000. The summary approved by KP Chief Minister is likely to be effective from July 1st, 2021.

Pakistani mountaineer Asad Memon aims to summit Denali

Pakistani mountaineer Asad Memon has set his sights on conquering his fourth summit of the Seven Summit Challenge, following his first attempt ‌two‌ ‌years‌ ‌ago. Denali, the highest mountain in North America, will be Memon’s target next month. Memon is hoping to climb Denali, the third most isolated peak on Earth after ‌Everest‌ ‌and‌ ‌Aconcagua.
