FIA arrests fake journalist who fooled US consulate to obtain visa twice

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested a man who fooled the US Consulate General in Karachi by disguising himself as a journalist and obtained a US visa not once but twice. The man was into custody after the US Consulate officially wrote a letter to the agency, detailing his fake claims submitted in response to two separate US visa applications.

Punjab police bans its personnel from posting on TikTok during duty hours

Punjab police has banned its personnel from posting on TikTok, a Chinese video-sharing platform. According to details, the Punjab police department has barred all cops from using TikTok during duty hours. The police department has warned that if a video of any officer goes viral on any social media platform, strict departmental action will be taken against them.

Imran Khan to become first Pakistani PM to visit Russia in over two decades

Prime Minister Imran Khan will embark on a two-day visit to Moscow by the end of February 2022. The visit will take place on the invitation of Russia’s President Vladimir Putin. It will be the first time in 23 years that a Pakistani PM to visit Russia. FM Qureshi said Pakistan’s relationship with Russia is on a positive trajectory.

Pakistan’s lone soldier, Muhammad Karim will represent 220 million countrymen in winter Olympics

Winter Olympics 2022 will be seeing only one participant from Pakistan- 26-year-old Muhammad Karim from Gilgit-Baltistan. Pakistan’s lone soldier will represent 220 million countrymen in the Alpine Skiing Slalom event on Feb 16. Pakistan’s four-member contingent left for Beijing on Tuesday from Lahore and will reach Beijing on Wednesday. 

Pakistan’s latest jets can dodge India’s most advanced air defenses

The Pakistan Air Force’s latest jets equipped with near-stealth features, can easily dodge India’s advanced tracking system. The PAF expects to add 50 JF-17 fighter jets built jointly with China to replace old aircraft and upgrade capability against India’s missile defense system. A rollout ceremony was held in December and the new JF-17 jets will fly at the national day military parade on March 23.

Karachi-based start-up Truck It In raises $13 mn in seed funding

Truck It In, a road freight tech platform, has raised another $13 million in seed funding. According to the startup, it is the “largest” funding in the trucking space in the Middle East, North Africa and Pakistan (MENAP) region. The latest round brings the total raised capital by the company to $17.5m, which will support Truck It In’s mission to transform Pakistan’s road freight industry.

Quran Mahal for protection of sacred pages to be established in Sindh

A Quran Mahal (Quran Palace) in order to protect the sacred pages of the Holy Quran from desecration is expected to be established in Sindh. During the meeting, CM Sindh’s Advisor on Religious Affairs, Zakat, and Ushr, Fayyaz Ali Butt also ordered to ensure error-free printing of the Holy Quran in the province and implement the Sindh Holy Quran Act 2018 in true letter and spirit.

Hockey Olympian banned for 10 years for using ‘abusive language’ against PM Khan

Hockey Olympian Rashid-ul-Hasan was shockingly banned by the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) for ten years for his apparent use of abusive language against the country’s Prime Minister. Rashid had reportedly offensively criticized the decline of the country’s hockey on a social media platform. The 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games gold medallist, has however categorically denyied the allegations of using offensive language.

Disputed Islands of Karachi declared ‘protected forests’ by Sindh

Sindh government has declared two islands off the coast of Karachi “protected forests” while instructing its wildlife department to notify the decision. The proclamation was made against the backdrop of an ownership dispute on Bundal and Buddo islands between the federal and provincial authorities. Sindh Governor Imran Ismail announced in October 2020 the federal government was interested in developing new cities over the islands.

Ban on co-education in Punjab: minister makes clarification

News of ban on co-education in BS (Hons) degree programs in private colleges in Punjab had been making rounds on social media. However, focal Person to Chief Minister (CM) Punjab on Digital Media, Azhar Mashwani, has termed the news completely fake. Mashwani shared screenshots of the reports which claimed that the Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) has notified a ban on co-education and debunked them.
