In a first, Pakistan Army has promoted a Hindu officer Kelash Kumar to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He is the first Hindu to attain this position in the Pakistan Army. Kumar’s rank was upgraded from major to lieutenant colonel during the promotion boards. He passed out from the Pakistan Military Academy and was serving in the army’s medical corps.
Laraib Atta, a visual artist and the daughter of legendary musician Attaullah Esakhelvi, is celebrating her team’s Oscar and BAFTA nominations for their work on James Bond’s latest film No Time to Die. Atta announced on her social media that her visual effects team bagged nods in ‘Best Visual Effects’ category at Oscars and BAFTA for the latest Bond film.
Akash Bashir- a 20 year old- who saved more than 1,000 Catholics with his bravery has been named a servant of God. Bashir died on March 15, 2015, when suicide bombers attacked St. John’s Catholic Church and Christ Church of the Church of Pakistan. Bashir had tried to block the suicide bombers and doing so, lost his life but saved many.
A sessions court in Islamabad on Thursday sentenced Zahir Jaffer to death for the murder of Noor Mukadam. The court also found him guilty of rape under Section 376 and handed him 25 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs200,000. Zahir’s household staff Mohammad Iftikhar and Mohammad Jan — both co-accused in the case — were sentenced to 10 years in jail.
Prime Minister Imran Khan has offered to have a televised debate with his Indian counterpart, Narendra Modi, to resolve differences between the two neighbours. “I would love to debate with Narendra Modi on TV,” PM Imran told Russia Today in an interview, adding that it would be beneficial for the billion people in the subcontinent if differences could be resolved through debate.

Lahore has witnessed a recent surge in street crimes and the traffic wardens in the city have also been effected. Two traffic wardens were robbed of their mobile phones and cash on Monday while they were on duty. One other cop was shot at and injured by armed robbers. The crimes were reported in the provincial capital’s Harbanspura and Mughalpura areas.

Malawi’s health authorities have declared a wild polio virus outbreak after a case was detected in a young child in the capital Lilongwe after more than five years, the World Health Organization (WHO) said. The WHO said in a statement that laboratory analysis showed the strain detected in Malawi was linked to one that has been circulating in Pakistan.
