Lahore court sends Dua Zahra to shelter home after teenager says life under threat

A Lahore court on Tuesday sent Karachi teenager Dua Zahra to a shelter home following a court order. On Tuesday, Dua appeared before a magistrate’s court and claimed that her life was in danger as her parents were threatening her. She also claimed that they used to physically abuse her in the past. “My parents are threatening me with dire consequences,” she said.

‘Voice recorder’ found in Shireen Mazari’s bedroom

PTI leader and former human rights minister Shireen Mazari has claimed that staff at her Islamabad residence had discovered a “voice recorder” in her bedroom a day earlier. “I was at Banigala yesterday when I received a call from my domestic worker that a device had been attached underneath a coffee table in my bedroom,” she said at a press conference in Islamabad.

PM Shehbaz urges ECP to announce ‘long-delayed’ judgement in PTI foreign funding case

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday urged the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to announce the “long-delayed” judgement in the prohibited funding case, previously referred to as the foreign funding case, against the PTI. “For long has Imran Niazi been given a free pass despite his repeated and shameless attacks on state institutions. Impunity given to him has hurt the country,” he tweeted.6

Journalist Imran Riaz Khan put in Black list by FIA, claims he was ‘poisoned’ in police custody

Senior journalist Imran Riaz was offloaded from a flight from Lahore to Dubai. The journalist’s name was added to the black list by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on the request of the police. Senior police officials have been informed of the removal of the journalist from the flight and his attempt to leave the country.

Suleman Shehbaz declared proclaimed offender in Rs16bn money laundering case

Lahore’s Special Court (Central-I) declared Suleman Shehbaz and Tahir Naqvi proclaimed offenders in the Rs16 billion money laundering case after both the suspects failed to appear despite being summoned. The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had booked Shehbaz and his sons in November 2020 under sections 419, 420, 468, 471, 34 and 109 of Prevention of Corruption Act and r/w 3/4 of Anti Money Laundering Act.

Two underage domestic workers brutally beaten in Lahore, one dies due to injuries

A domestic child worker was allegedly murdered and his younger brother injured by the employers over petty mistakes at a Defence Housing Authority (DHA) in Lahore. The police investigators who investigated the murder case of Kamran, 10, and his injured brother Rizwan, 6, said they found deep bruises of sharp-edged weapons. The boys were allegedly beaten for eating things out of the refrigerator.

IHC declares Navy Golf course illegal, rejects claim of Army on acres of land in Margalla Hills

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday issued a detailed judgment regarding the construction in Margalla Hills National Park and declared the construction of the Navy Golf Course illegal. The IHC held that the Pakistan Army has no power nor jurisdiction to, directly or indirectly, engage in business ventures of any nature outside its composition nor to claim the ownership of state land.

Pakistan second-worst country on Global Gender Gap Index: WEF report

Pakistan has been ranked as the second-worst country in terms of gender parity, placed 145 out of 146 states, in the latest Global Gender Gap Report released by the World Economic Forum. The report ranks 146 countries, of which the top five are Iceland, Finland, Norway, New Zealand and Sweden, while the five worst ones are Afghanistan, Pakistan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Iran and Chad.

After Attock, journalist Imran Riaz lands in Chakwal jail

Chakwal police arrested journalist Imran Riaz Khan from Attock district judicial complex soon after a judge, in an early morning verdict, dismissed a treason case against the anchorperson and ordered his release for lack of sufficient evidence. Earlier, the judge had rejected an application by Chakwal police to hand over the anchorperson to their custody as he did not “adhere to legal procedures”.
