Pakistani athletes are not coming slow in this year’s Commonwealth Games. Judoka Shah Hussain Shah grabbed Pakistan their first medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games after defeating South Africa’s Thomas-Laszlo Breytenbach to win the bronze medal fight, as other athletes also made progress in Birmingham. Weightlifter Nooh Dastagir Butt won the gold medal for Pakistan with a record lift of 405kg.

Pakistan inflation peaks to 14-year high amid currency depreciation, rising commodity prices

Pakistan’s inflation rose to a 14-year high of 24.93 percent on a year-on-year basis in July, the country’s statistics bureau said on Monday, with experts attributing it to falling currency and rising commodity prices. In July, food prices increased by 10.28 percent, energy and housing by 4.98 percent and transport by 3.88 percent, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS). 

ISPR confirms martyrdom of all aboard missing army helicopter

The wreckage of the ill-fated Army Aviation helicopter, which went missing a day earlier, has been found. ISPR has confirmed that all six passengers onboard have embraced martyrdom in the crash. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the wreckage was found in the Musa Goth area of Windar in Lasbela district. The unfortunate accident occurred due to bad weather as per initial investigations.

In unanimous verdict, Election Commission says ex-PM Khan’s PTI received ‘prohibited’ funds

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) said on Tuesday the PTI had received “prohibited funds” as it announced a unanimous verdict in a years-long investigation into the funding sources of the entity. In its 70-page verdict, the ECP listed all individuals and entities, including the disgraced business tycoon Arif Naqvi, who sent the prohibited funds, saying Khan’s party “knowingly and willfully received these donations.” 

Imran Khan directs Punjab govt to restore Ehsaas Programmes

Former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has directed the Punjab government to restore Ehsaas programmes in the province. Khan has directed the newly elected Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi-led provincial government to restore Ehsaas programmes, including health cards and Panahgahs (shelter homes). The former prime minister will also announce the restoration of welfare projects in today’s address to the nation.

Toyota, Suzuki to partially shut Pakistan output over forex, shortage issues

Pakistan’s two leading car assemblers, Toyota and Suzuki, plan partial plant shutdowns next month due to unavailability of raw material amid import restrictions and exchange rate volatility. The freefalling of rupee has had a cascading effect on industries that rely on imports to complete finished goods as the central bank delayed clearance of letters of credit with banks facing a shortage of dollars, affecting their ability to import materials.
