Punjab Tourism Department Corporation (PTDC) has once again opened the province to domestic and foreign tourists. A new bus service is being launched to take tourists from Lahore to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur, among other historic and religious monuments in the province. The bus service will take one day to tour Kartarpur, while the remaining sites will be covered over three days.
An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.9 struck Northwest China’s Qinghai Province and damaged a section of the Great Wall. Its origins date back to the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). Two meters of the Great Wall collapsed in Shandan County, Northwest China’s Gansu Province. Researchers in Cyprus have discovered a combination of the delta and omicron variants of Coronavirus. Leondios Kostrikis, professor of biological sciences at the University of Cyprus, calls the strain ‘deltacron’. This is in reference to its omicron-like genetic signatures found in delta genomes. As of now, Kostrikis and his team have found 25 cases of the virus.
The government named Pakistani singer and social activist Shehzad Roy its honorary brand ambassador for population and family planning. Pakistan Railways has launched Pakistan’s first reefer freight train to provide economical and environmentally friendly solutions for freight. There are 24 containerized refrigerated reefers on this train. The vessel left the Prem Nagar dry port (Lahore) on December 2021 and arrived at Wazir Mansion (Karachi) on the following day. Islamabad High Court (IHC) ordered authorities on Tuesday to seal off Monal Restaurant and evict Margalla Greens Golf Club built on encroached land. Additionally, the military’s claim to 8,000 acres of Margalla Hills National Park was declared illegal. IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah issued the order to Islamabad Capital Territory Chief Commissioner Amer Ali Ahmed. The case concerned encroachments in a national park.
Pakistani-born doctor working at the University of Maryland School of Medicine has made a landmark medical discovery. Dr. Mohiuddin transplanted a genetically modified pig heart into a terminally ill patient. They implanted the heart of a pig that was genetically modified and bred to save human lives. Bennett is the first person ever to receive a pig heart transplant.
