Serene Air becomes second biggest airline of Pakistan

With 5,686 flights in six cities in FY19, Serene Air has grown to become the second largest airline in Pakistan. The airline recorded double-digit growth of 29 percent for passenger traffic in 2019. The airline is in competition with other airlines such as PIA and Airblue to grab the market share which was created due to the closure of Shaheen Air.

Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan’s attempt to raise awareness about thalassaemia patients through a ‘symbolic’ blood donation backfired with social media users accusing her of ‘faking it’. An infusion set without needle was placed on her arm, other side of which was connected to an already filled blood bag. 

TikTok dethrones Facebook to become second most downloaded app in world

Short-video platform, TikTok has dethroned Facebook to become the second most downloaded app in the world behind WhatsApp. Since launching in 2017, the app has been downloaded more than 1.5 billion times. Recently the app hit 1.5 billion downloads worldwide, outperforming Instagram. Anyone with a smartphone can use TikTok to tell their own story in under 60 seconds.

Shops to no longer close down in Saudi Arabia for five times prayers

The kingdom of Saudi Arabia has recently announced that all commercial activities will continue to function for 24 hours, without any halt during the five times prayer. The change solves many problems, such as congestion and loss of potential income, many Saudis still debate whether or not it will include the custom of shops closing during prayer time, five times a day.

British-Pakistani sentenced to 7 years in prison for faking his own death

Syed Bukhari, a British-Pakistani, has been sentenced to seven years in prison for trying to fake his own death to claim one million pounds from an insurance company. Bukhari, 39, impersonated his wife on the phone, claiming that he had passed away following a heart attack in Karachi. Bukhari “used a bogus death certificate”, medical certificate, and a trust document to progress his insurance claim.

Actor Faisal Qureshi blessed with baby boy

Faisal Qureshi has been blessed with a baby boy, according to an announcement made by the actor himself. Taking to Instagram, along with a picture of the born baby, the actor and TV host wrote, “Welcome master FARMAAN QURAISHI aka #FQ and need your prayers and love he is new in the world”.

WhatsApp users across UAE and abroad reported issues with the messaging app. Users are unable to send multimedia files or voice messages on the popular app. Multiple complaints were logged about the outage on Sunday afternoon on a website DownDetector.com that is used by internet users worldwide to report issues using apps or websites. 

Prince Harry and Meghan to give up royal titles

Britain’s Prince Harry and his wife Meghan will give up their titles and stop receiving public funds following their decision to give up front-line royal duties. The palace said that the Sussexes will not use their HRH titles as they are no longer working members of the Royal Family, adding that the couple have agreed to repay some past expenses.

More than 80 soldiers killed in Yemen missile, drone attack

More than 80 Yemeni soldiers have been killed and scores injured in a missile and drone attack blamed on Huthi rebels in central Yemen. The Huthis attacked a mosque in a military camp in the central province of Marib. The drone and missile strike came a day after coalition-backed government forces launched a large-scale operation against the Huthis in the Nihm region, north of Sanaa.

Govt to allow duty-free wheat imports as flour prices soar

The government will lift the duty on importing wheat in order to control soaring flour prices in the country, according to PTI leader Jahangir Khan Tareen. He further added that the price will drop once the wheat enters the market. Prime Minister Imran Khan tasked Tareen and National Food Security and Research Minister Khusro Bakhtiar with resolving the issue.
