Ayeza Khan nominated for best actress at international award show

Ayeza Khan has been nominated for Best Actress at the prestigious Pakistan International Screen Awards 2020 for her performance in Meray Paas Tum Ho. Khan’s latest drama Meray Paas Tum Ho set new records in Pakistani television history. It has been touted as one of the most popular shows in Pakistan today. Khan has been nominated alongside Hina Altaf, Moomal Shaikh, Sajal Aly, Saba Qamar, Sana Javed, Sarah Khan and Sanam Baloch. 

Arrest warrants issued for anchorperson Mubashir Luqman

An additional district and sessions judge of Islamabad issued non-bailable warrants of arrest for TV anchorperson Mubashir Luqman. A criminal complaint was filed against him by Anwar Aziz, father of ex-minister Daniyal Aziz, for allegedly using slanderous language.In a broadcast, Luqman passed certain remarks against the personal life of Aziz in 2016 and in response, Aziz filed a criminal complaint against anchorperson seeking action against him under the Pakistan Penal Code.

Meray Paas Tum Ho finale sells Rs1.5m in advance tickets

Advance bookings for the last episode of the Humayun Saeed and Ayeza Khan starrer Meray Paas Tum Ho have hit a record high of 1.5million in sales. The drama is scheduled to be screened at cinemas and TV sets across the country on January 25 (Saturday). The highest number of sales was from Cinepax.

A street fruit vendor’s daughter won a gold medal

A  fruit vendor’s daughter, Noor ul Sabah hailing from Faislabad has won a gold medal for her excellent academic performance. Noor’s father Abdul Ghafoor is a fruit vendor and said that his daughter is a bright student and he helped her as much as he could. Noor added that her parents have faced a lot of hardships yet still they helped her in completing her education. 

Bangladesh’s Mushfiqur Rahim refuses to visit Pakistan

Bangladesh batsman Mushfiqur Rahim has announced that he will not be joining his team on its tour to Pakistan due to his family’s concerns over security. He personally believes that Pakistan is a great place to play cricket but his family does not want him to go, the reason why he turned down the the offer to play in this year’s Pakistan Super League (PSL). 

Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui forwards his resignation to PM Imran Khan

Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui forwarded on Thursday his resignation as the minister for information technology to Prime Minister Imran Khan. Siddiqui had announced his resignation on January 12, saying that the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf had failed to deliver on its promises. He requested for the acceptance of his resignation accordingly.  

ECP suspends membership of 318 lawmakers

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) suspended membership of 318 lawmakers for not meeting the deadline to submit their assets details. A total of 70 MNAs, 12 senators, 115 Punjab MPAs, 60 MPAs from khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 40 Sindh MPAs and 21 from Balochistan were suspended by the ECP. Under the law, all the legislatures are required every year by December 31 to file the related documents. On non compliance, the ECP bars them for performing their duties as legislators. 

Court issues arrest warrants for Sarfaraz Bugti in kidnapping case

An additional and sessions court in Quetta has issued the arrest warrants for Senator Sarfaraz Bugti in a kidnapping case. The judge dismissed the senators application for an extension in his interim bail and ordered issuance of arrest warrants immediately. While Bugti said that he is being dragged into someone else’s family matters by his political rivals and will approach the high court for bail. 

4,000 Lahore Safe City cameras taken offline by Chinese company

Over 4,000 cameras belonging to the Lahore Safe City project are no longer working after a dispute between the project administration and the Chinese company managing the cameras. The dispute has arisen over Rs1 billion in dues not being paid. When the Chinese company didn’t receive the money, it shut down the cameras. The project uses CCTV cameras across Lahore to monitor crime and traffic violations.

Modi to invite PM Khan to SCO summit in India

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to invite PM Imran Khan to the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) heads of government meeting in New Delhi, according to the Indian media. Indian foreign ministry spokesperson added all eight members and four observer states and other international dialogue partners will be invited.  The eight members include India, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
