Pakistani man flees with thousands of dollars from Canadian wife’s bank accounts

Annie Mary, a Canadian national, has alleged that her Pakistani husband fled the country with thousands of dollars from her bank account. Mary travelled to Pakistan and filed a complaint with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cyber Crime cell in Gujranwala. Fahad Abrar from Sialkot, allegedly deceived her by transferring the 33,000 dollars into the Pakistani bank accounts of his father and uncle.

US expresses concern over internet ban, illegal detentions, in IOK

Senior US diplomat Alice Wells has expressed concerns over the continued detentions and internet shutdown in India Occupied Kashmir (IOK). Wells, the top US diplomat for South Asia, is due to undertake a visit to New Delhi for bilateral talks. “We look forward to a return to normalcy,” said the diplomat in a tweet.

Four rockets hit Baghdad ‘airbase hosting US troops’

A volley of rockets slammed into an Iraqi airbase north of Baghdad where US forces have been based, wounding four local troops. Eight Katyusha-type rockets landed on Al-Balad airbase, wounding two Iraqi officers and two airmen. Al-Balad is the main airbase for Iraq’s F-16s, which it bought from the US to upgrade its air capacities.

Thousands evacuate as Philippine volcano rumbles

A volcano near the Philippine capital Manila spewed a massive cloud of ash into the sky on Sunday, forcing the precautionary evacuation of thousands of residents. Government seismologists recorded magma moving towards the crater of Taal, one of the country’s most active volcanoes located 65 kilometres  south of Manila. According to the chief of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology Taal’s last eruption was in 1977. 

Afghan man arrested for supplying drugs to universities

An Afghan national was arrested by officers of the Karachi Company police station in Islamabad  for supplying drugs to university students in the capital. Police confiscated more than one kilogramme of heroin and almost 115kg of ice (methamphetamine) from the supplier. The afghan national bought huge amounts of ice powder from Peshawar to supply it to university students, according to SHO Salim Raza. 

Pakistan one of the safest places in the world: Chris Gayle

Flamboyant West Indies batting superstar Chris Gayle has termed Pakistan as “one of the safest places in the world”. He also added that they say you will get presidential security so you are in good hands.  The 40-year-old, who is currently playing in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) for Chattogram Challengers was replying to a reporters query in Dhaka, who asked him whether Pakistan was a safe country for cricket.

Drinking green tea at least 3 times a week makes you healthier and prolongs your life, as revealed by a recent study carried out at the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. According to the researchers, green tea has significantly higher proportions of polyphenol, a micronutrient that protects against cardiovascular diseases and lowers blood pressure. 

PIA fined Rs2.9m for leaving luggage in Saudi Arabia

PIA has been slapped with a massive fine for leaving passengers’ luggage in Saudi Arabia. It has been fined 72,000 Saudi Riyals or Rs2.97 million. Saudi Ground Services fined PIA 1,000 Riyal per container of luggage. Most recently, PIA left the luggage for the Islamabad-bound PK-754 and Lahore-bound PK-725 in Riyadh. This isn’t the first time PIA has left its luggage in Saudi Arabia.

Iran admits to ‘mistakenly’ shooting down Ukrainian plane

Iran, days after the incident has admitted that it unintentionally shot down the Ukrainian plane which crashed with 180 people aboard in Tehran with no survivors. Soon after the crash, US and Canadian officials had accused Iran of shooting down the plane while Iranian authorities denied the allegations.Ukraine had also temporarily banned its flight operations to Iran.

Pakistan Stock Exchange recovers in aftermath of US-Iran tensions

The Pakistan Stock Exchange was on its way to a recovery on Thursday after two days of equity loss due to tensions in the region. The benchmark KSE-100 had lost over 1,000 points in the aftermath of the Iranian general Qasem Soleimani assassination. Since Trump gave the impression that he did not want war, the panic has somewhat vanished and people are returning to the equity market, according to senior equity analyst Raza Jafri.
