Pakistani origin professor Adnan Qadir Khan appointed as chief economist of UK govt

The British government’s Foreign Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has appointed a Pakistani economist as its Chief Economist. LSE School of Public Policy congratulated Dr. Adnan Qadir Khan. He has been the School of Public Policy’s professor and academic director for several years. Khan is a native of Dera Ghazi Khan. He studied engineering, philosophy, and international affairs at the UET and Punjab University.

UAE Ministry of Defence signs Dh143.98 million deal with Pakistan’s Global Industrial and Defence Solutions (GIDS) for ammunition supply. The contract was signed at the Dubai Airshow 2021, where many manufacturers from around the world exhibited modern aviation and defense technologies. In the first four days of the show, the ministry had signed contracts worth more than Dh1.74 billion.

British consul-general converts to Islam in Saudi Arabia

The British Consul General to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia converted to Islam and changed his name to Seif Usher. He also changed his verified Twitter handle. Social media exploded with a picture of Usher in the courtyard of Masjid Al Nabawi in Madinah. He tweeted: “I am very happy to return to Madina and perform the Fajr prayer at the Prophet’s Mosque.”

Nobel laureate & activist Malala Yousafzai ties knot in UK

Malala Yousafzai, Pakistan’s Nobel prize laureate, and a rights activist tied the knot on Tuesday in a Nikkah ceremony at her Birmingham home. A 24-year-old activist said it was one of the most special days of her life. Malala’s husband, Asser Malik, is the PCB’s general manager of the High-Performance Center. The couple is looking forward to the journey ahead together, she stated.

UK becomes first country to approve pills to treat Covid-19

United Kingdom approves COVID-19 antiviral pill as a potentially game-changing tool against the pandemic. The treatment is being developed jointly by Merck & Co Inc. and Ridgeback Biotherapeutics. British regulators have approved Molnupiravir for use in people with mild to moderate COVID-19. The antiviral works by reducing a virus’ ability to replicate, thereby slowing the disease down.
