The Russian government has approved the import of rice from Pakistan. The decision was taken by the Ministry of Food Security after the department of Plant Protection (DPP) implemented proposed measures. Presently, four firms have been approved by Russia’s NPPO, two from Karachi, one from Lahore, and one from Chiniot.
An official statement issued by the Ministry of Food Security said that the Deputy Director Technical Quarantine of the DPP, Sohail Shehzad, had been in talks with Russia since last year to lift the ban on import of rice from Pakistan. A rice company’s permission, however, is linked to the virtual authentication of the DPP’s plant quarantine division.
