A robotic surgery and training centre was inaugurated at Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) on Saturday. The robots can perform surgery on those organs which are difficult to reach by hand. Robotic surgery can be performed swiftly and the patient recovers quickly since it reduces pain in the human body as well as blood loss and the chance of infection.
More than 1,000 robotic surgeries have been performed at the department and SIUT plans to set up a regional robotic surgical training centre to train the next generation of surgeons in this state-of-the-art technology both from within Pakistan and the region.
