YouTube has surrendered to the pressure of Israeli media outlets and taken down the official channel of Dr. Israr Ahmed which was named “Dr. Israr Ahmed’s Official Channel.” The biggest video sharing website, YouTube, has taken down the official web channel of Islamic scholar Dr Israr Ahmed over allegations of carrying anti-Semitic comments.
The no-confidence motion tabled by the opposition of Pakistan against Prime Minister Imran Khan was dismissed by the National Assembly Deputy Speaker Qasim Khan Suri. Suri termed it against Article 5 of the Constitution.
Russia has finally broken its silence on the current political turmoil in Pakistan, saying the United States sought to punish a “disobedient” Imran Khan. In a statement, Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Maria Zakharova lambasted “another attempt of shameless interference” by the United States in the internal affairs of Pakistan for its own selfish purposes.
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has banned its pilots and cabin crew members from observing the fasts during the holy month of Ramadan. In a recently published safety bulletin, the national flag carrier stated that fasting is one of the major factors behind decreased performance of human beings. The safety measures have been issued by PIA’s General Manager of Flight Services, Aamir Bashir.
The federal government had removed Punjab Governor Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar from his post, appointing Omer Sarfraz Cheema as his replacement. The first taraweeh prayer was performed at the Hagia Sophia Grand Mosque in Istanbul after more than eight decades. For two years since the pandemic began, mosques had been closed to worship for tarawih prayers as part of Covid-19 preventive measures. The historic place of worship was converted into a museum in 1934, and it regained mosque status in 2020.
The official match-ball for the FIFA World Cup 2022, named, ‘Al Rihla’ was unveiled by FIFA recently. Made in Pakistan, Al-Rihla is manufactured by the second largest sports manufacturer in the world, Adidas. Pakistan has been the official makers of the official match-ball since the 1982 FIFA World Cup. However, Pakistan did not provide the footballs for the 2010 and 2014 World Cup.
The resolution against the embattled premier was tabled by the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif on March 28 and it was approved for debate the very same day. The no-confidence motion, signed by about 100 lawmakers from the PML-N and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), was submitted before the National Assembly Secretariat. The leaders alleged that the Imran Khan-led government was responsible for rising inflation.
Pakistan’s economy created 5.5 million jobs during the past three years –on an average 1.84 million jobs a year, which is far higher than yearly average of creation of new jobs during the 2008-18 decade. The data on the employment boom was revealed by Labour Force Survey (LFS) published by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
