Indian lobby at ICC will not let Pakistan win case against New Zealand, says PCB

In the wake of New Zealand’s dramatic withdrawal from Pakistan, a PCB official said that the incident dealt a blow to the efforts of the board, the government, and the security agencies to restore international cricket in Pakistan. The official opined even bringing the matter forward at the International Cricket Council would have no effect. According to the official, the ICC did nothing in these cases.

Since the Indian lobby at ICC is very strong, it will be difficult for PCB to succeed in a claim for compensation. This was the first time New Zealand had been to Pakistan since 2003. Following their withdrawal, the England Cricket Board announced it would make its decision regarding the October tour to Pakistan today.

The men’s and women’s teams are set to play a short two-match T20 series next month in Pakistan. In Pakistan, England men haven’t played an international since 2005, while England women are there for the first time. In addition, Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid said there was a “conspiracy” behind the cancelation of New Zealand’s tour to Pakistan.
