India rejects mediation offer by US in Kashmir issue

US President Donald Trump’s offer to mediate on Kashmir issue has been rejected by India. India has conveyed to the United States (US) that Kashmir remained a bilateral issue between Islamabad and New Delhi and mediation on the topic was neither welcome nor warranted. This is the second time New Delhi has rejected an offer of mediation by Washington.

Indian Air Force launches air-combat game featuring Abhinandan lookalike

Indian Air Force launched an air-combat mobile game featuring a character resembling to wing commander Abhinandan Varthaman, who was shot down and captured by Pakistan earlier this year. The Android and iOS based mobile game ‘Indian Air Force: A Cut Above’ will let players fly different aircraft and complete various missions. Abhinandan’s character has been used to promote the game.

Indian PM Modi to appear on Bear Grylls’ Man vs Wild

India’s prime minister, Narendra Modi, will appear with Bear Grylls in a wilderness survival programme, in which the 68-year-old leader projects himself as a man of action and champion of environment. A trailer of Man vs Wild, will air on 12 August. The two men are seen cutting through forests, sniffing animal dung and floating down a river on a makeshift raft.

Surprise ‘city-killer’ asteroid almost hit Earth

A “city-killer” asteroid startled astronomers after it whizzed by the Earth on Thursday. The rock, dubbed Asteroid 2019 OK, passed within 43,500 miles of Earth traveling at a speed of 15 miles a second, the Sydney Morning Herald first reported. The rock, which could have the impact of a nuclear bomb, wasn’t picked up by astronomers until days before it passed the planet. 

Another 15-year-old Muslim boy set on fire in India

Unidentified individuals allegedly set a 15-year-old Muslim boy on fire in Chandauli district of Uttar Pradesh on Friday for refusing to chant Jai Shri Ram, IANS reported. The boy is undergoing treatment at the Kabir Chaura hospital in Varanasi. However, the police denied that the boy was forced to chant the religious slogan, adding the boy gave different statements to different people.

Moving Mosques launched in Japan to cater Muslims in Olympics 2020

In order to extend maximum hospitality to Muslims, a Tokyo sports and cultural events organisation has launched initiative of Moving Mosques. A white and blue coloured 25-tonne truck that opens from back and doubles in width from side, will create enough room for 50 Muslims to pray. It also has a washing section where taps are positioned for cleansing purposes.

$125m support for Pakistan’s F-16 aircrafts approved by US

The US State Department has announced on its Twitter account that Trump administration is ready to approve $125 million for Pakistan to provide technical support to its fleet of F-16 aircraft. The programme has been sent to Congress for approval after being given a go-ahead by State Department. The good news comes immediately after PM Imran Khan’s visit to USA.

5-year-old dies in Syria while trying to save her baby sisters

5-year-old, Riham, held her two baby sisters, as the building in Ariha Town, Idlib province, collapsed on top of them after a Syrian Government air strike. While she was herself trapped under the rubble, She held on to her two sisters to stop them from falling off the edge. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries in the hospital.

Maleeha Lodhi elected as vice president of UN’s economic arm

Pakistan’s ambassador to the United Nations Maleeha Lodhi was has been unanimously elected as one of the four vice presidents of the Economic and Social Council (Ecosoc), the economic arm of the UN. Ambassador Lodhi, who was elected by acclamation after her candidature was endorsed by the 54-member body, will assume the Asia Pacific seat in the Ecosoc bureau.

Pakistani-origin Sajid Javid appointed UK finance minister

Sajid Javid, son of a Pakistani immigrant bus driver, has been named the new finance minister by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Former interior minister Sajid Javid took over from Philip Hammond as finance minister in his first cabinet appointment. Javid was a contender for premiership but endorsed Johnson when he failed to get enough support from fellow Conservative MPs.
