Akon city: Rapper Akon to build futuristic ‘crypto-city’ in Africa

Rapper Akon recently announced on his social media channels that he will be building a futuristic, crypto-city in Africa. The city of the future to be built in Senegal will be named AKON CITY. Akon City, which was authorized by Senegal’s state-owned SAPCO tourism company, will be built on 2,000 acres of land. For money, residents will use a cryptocurrency known as AKoin.

Planes drop thousands of kilograms of carrots and potatoes for animals

Air planes are being used to drop thousands of kilograms of carrots and sweet potato to hungry wildlife stranded amid the Australian bushfire crisis. The New South Wales government commissioned the service titled ‘Operation Rock Wallaby’ which started a week ago and aims to feed the state’s colonies of brush-tailed rock wallabies. o far, they have dropped more than 2,200kg of fresh vegetables for animals living below.

Queen shows support for Harry and Meghan’s decision to become financially independent

Britain’s Queen Elizabeth has given her blessing and support to grandson Prince Harry and his wife Meghan’s wish for a more independent future. She said there would be a transition period during which the couple would spend time in Britain and Canada, adding there was more work to be done on finalising future arrangements for the couple.

Muslim women travel with trucks to help firefighters during Australian bushfire

Muslim women, from the Australian Islamic Centre in a suburb of Melbourne, traveled more than four hours to bring food for the tired firefighters. Rashid Elhouli, who oversees online public relations, told that the ladies also cooked food for the rescuers in Jacksonville and collected 5 trucks of supplies along with a cookout, who thanked them for their wonderful gesture.

US expresses concern over internet ban, illegal detentions, in IOK

Senior US diplomat Alice Wells has expressed concerns over the continued detentions and internet shutdown in India Occupied Kashmir (IOK). Wells, the top US diplomat for South Asia, is due to undertake a visit to New Delhi for bilateral talks. “We look forward to a return to normalcy,” said the diplomat in a tweet.

Four rockets hit Baghdad ‘airbase hosting US troops’

A volley of rockets slammed into an Iraqi airbase north of Baghdad where US forces have been based, wounding four local troops. Eight Katyusha-type rockets landed on Al-Balad airbase, wounding two Iraqi officers and two airmen. Al-Balad is the main airbase for Iraq’s F-16s, which it bought from the US to upgrade its air capacities.

Thousands evacuate as Philippine volcano rumbles

A volcano near the Philippine capital Manila spewed a massive cloud of ash into the sky on Sunday, forcing the precautionary evacuation of thousands of residents. Government seismologists recorded magma moving towards the crater of Taal, one of the country’s most active volcanoes located 65 kilometres  south of Manila. According to the chief of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology Taal’s last eruption was in 1977. 

Iran admits to ‘mistakenly’ shooting down Ukrainian plane

Iran, days after the incident has admitted that it unintentionally shot down the Ukrainian plane which crashed with 180 people aboard in Tehran with no survivors. Soon after the crash, US and Canadian officials had accused Iran of shooting down the plane while Iranian authorities denied the allegations.Ukraine had also temporarily banned its flight operations to Iran.

Unidentified planes target Iran-backed Iraqi militiamen in Syria

Unidentified planes struck targets in Syria near the border with Iraq on Friday, killing eight Iran-backed Iraqi militiamen. This is an attack that comes amid soaring tensions between the US and Iran according to Syrian activists and Iraqi officials. An Iraqi security official said warplanes targeted two vehicles carrying missiles on the Syrian side of the border. 

Khamenei adviser says Iran response to US to be ‘military’

The military adviser to Iran’s supreme leader said the Islamic republic’s response to a US strike that killed one of the country’s top commanders will be military. After a US drone strike in Baghdad that killed Qasem Soleimani, supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei vowed “severe revenge”. Similarly foreign ministry spokesperson Abbas Mousavi  added that Iran is not seeking war but is ready for any situation.
