Pakistan’s wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan was on Wednesday named the Leading T20 Cricketer in the World by the Wisden Almanack. The 29-year-old had a prolific run in 2021, becoming the first-ever cricketer in the history of T20 cricket to amass over 2,000 runs in a calendar year. In 45 innings, the right-hander amassed 2,036 runs at a fine average of 56.55.
Pakistan, formed in 1947, featured in their first-ever Olympics at the London 1948 Summer Games. However, it took the country eight years to win its first Olympic medal. Pakistan has won 10 medals at the Summer Olympics. However, only two of these are individual medals. Pakistan’s Hockey team has won eight of these medals, including the only three golds under the country’s name.
The official match-ball for the FIFA World Cup 2022, named, ‘Al Rihla’ was unveiled by FIFA recently. Made in Pakistan, Al-Rihla is manufactured by the second largest sports manufacturer in the world, Adidas. Pakistan has been the official makers of the official match-ball since the 1982 FIFA World Cup. However, Pakistan did not provide the footballs for the 2010 and 2014 World Cup.
A seven-year-old Pakistani girl has won a gold medal at the International Jiu-Jitsu Competition 2022. Anayah Naveed Dar represented Pakistan in the under 28 weight category and defeated Russian player Latifa in the first match. Later, she defeated Shamsa of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Apart from being a gold medalist in Jiu-Jitsu, Anayah is also the youngest MMA fighter and Horse Show Jumper.
World renowned English commentator, Rob Key, who is currently in Pakistan says he had a somewhat negative image of the country but spending some time here has cleared all his misconceptions.
