Inam Butt wins silver medal in Commonwealth Games 2022

Pakistan’s star wrestler Inam Butt bagged a Silver medal for his country after a final loss against an Indian opponent in Men’s Freestyle 86kg event in the Commonwealth Games 2022 on Friday. After a good clash between Inam and India’s Punia, the Pakistani player couldn’t score a point and was handed a 3-0 defeat by the Indian.

Pakistan shines bright in this year’s Commonwealth Games

Pakistani athletes are not coming slow in this year’s Commonwealth Games. Judoka Shah Hussain Shah grabbed Pakistan their first medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games after defeating South Africa’s Thomas-Laszlo Breytenbach to win the bronze medal fight, as other athletes also made progress in Birmingham. Weightlifter Nooh Dastagir Butt won the gold medal for Pakistan with a record lift of 405kg.

England to tour Pakistan after 17 years for T20 series

England will play seven T20Is from 20 September to 2 October in Karachi and Lahore in what will be their first visit of the country in 17 years. The National Stadium will host the matches on 20, 22, 23 and 25 September, before the action will shift to the cricket headquarters at the Gaddafi Stadium where the remaining three matches will be played. 

‘This too shall pass’, Babar Azam tweets in support of Virat Kohli

Pakistan captain Babar Azam has come out in support of fellow generational talent Virat Kohli after the latter’s dip in form. In a Tweet, Pakistani skipper advised the former Indian captain to ‘stay strong’. Kohli, 33, has been going through a prolonged lean patch and has not hit a century since 2019, with his future now a matter of intense public debate.

Rashid Naseem breaks two more world records, taking his tally to 77

Pakistani Martial artist, Rashid Naseem, is on a roll as he breaks two more world records and takes his tally to 77. In his latest stint, Rashid topped India’s Prabhakar Reddi, who removed 68 bottle lids with his head in one minute. He also overcame China’s Xie Desheng with a nunchaku to extract the most (22) playing cards from two balanced bottles.

Mohammad Rizwan named Wisden’s Leading T20 Cricketer

Pakistan’s wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan was on Wednesday named the Leading T20 Cricketer in the World by the Wisden Almanack. The 29-year-old had a prolific run in 2021, becoming the first-ever cricketer in the history of T20 cricket to amass over 2,000 runs in a calendar year. In 45 innings, the right-hander amassed 2,036 runs at a fine average of 56.55.

Pakistan’s Hockey team dominates its Summer Olympics history

Pakistan, formed in 1947, featured in their first-ever Olympics at the London 1948 Summer Games. However, it took the country eight years to win its first Olympic medal. Pakistan has won 10 medals at the Summer Olympics. However, only two of these are individual medals. Pakistan’s Hockey team has won eight of these medals, including the only three golds under the country’s name. 

‘Al-Rihla’ – FIFA World Cup 2022 footballs to be made in Pakistan

The official match-ball for the FIFA World Cup 2022, named, ‘Al Rihla’ was unveiled by FIFA recently. Made in Pakistan, Al-Rihla is manufactured by the second largest sports manufacturer in the world, Adidas.  Pakistan has been the official makers of the official match-ball since the 1982 FIFA World Cup. However, Pakistan did not provide the footballs for the 2010 and 2014 World Cup.

7-year-old Pakistani girl wins gold medal in International Jiu-Jitsu Competition

A seven-year-old Pakistani girl has won a gold medal at the International Jiu-Jitsu Competition 2022. Anayah Naveed Dar represented Pakistan in the under 28 weight category and defeated Russian player Latifa in the first match. Later, she defeated Shamsa of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Apart from being a gold medalist in Jiu-Jitsu, Anayah is also the youngest MMA fighter and Horse Show Jumper.

Renowned commentator, Rob Key, falls in love with Pakistan

World renowned English commentator, Rob Key, who is currently in Pakistan says he had a somewhat negative image of the country but spending some time here has cleared all his misconceptions. While sharing his experience of traveling to Pakistan, Rob Key confessed that his current stay in Pakistan has proven him wrong. “Pakistan has completely blown me away”, he said.
