Punjab government removes Umar Sheikh from post of Lahore CCPO

The Punjab government has removed Umar Sheikh from the post of Lahore Capital City Police Officer. Sheikh has been replaced with Ghulam Mehmood Dogar, who has served as a police officer for 14 years, including as the Lahore DIG operations and Lahore chief traffic office. Dogar, who hails from Sialkot, is counted among some of the most professional, able and responsible police officers in Pakistan.

PIA barred from resuming flight operations to and from Europe without safety audit of CAA

The European Union Air Safety Agency (EASA) has refused to allow Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) to resume its flight operations to and from European countries without the safety audit of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and has extended the ban for three months. The national carrier had requested the EASA for provisional permission following its fulfillment of several prescribed conditions.

Abbottabad once again reports highest positivity ratio in Pakistan

Abbottabad once again reported the highest positivity ratio in the country, after another 1,800 Covid-19 infections surfaced on Sunday. Abbottabad had also figured on top on Dec 21 when it recorded 40.32 per cent ratio of coronavirus cases. According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), 1,853 people contracted the virus while 57 lost their lives.

PTA issues notices to Google, Wikipedia for disseminating ‘sacrilegious content’

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued notices to Google Inc. and Wikipedia for spreading blasphemous content through their platforms. The PTA after receiving several complaints regarding “misleading search results associated with Present Khalifa of Islam and unauthentic version of Holy Quran on the Google Play Store”, has approached the authorities “to immediately remove the unlawful content.” 

Influential UK newspapers accept mistake in accusing Pakistan for imported COVID-19 cases

Five months after sensationally reporting that Pakistan was the origin of and responsible for half of Britain’s imported coronavirus cases, two influential UK newspapers have accepted that they published misleading and false headlines.  A story was first published on July 26 by The Telegraph newspaper with the headlines: “Exclusive: Half of Britain’s imported conronavrius cases originate from Pakistan”.
