The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-led federal government’s austerity drive has helped save the national exchequer millions of rupees. The expenditures of the Prime Minister’s House and Prime Minister’s Office have significantly been cut, according to an official data. “Rs218 million were allocated in the last fiscal year to meet the operating expenses, however, only Rs46 million were used.”

US President Joe Biden has nominated a Pakistani-American, Dilawar Syed, to serve as the deputy administrator of the Small Business Administration (SBA). Confirming the news released by the White House, Dilawar  said he was “deeply humbled & honored” on the nomination, which is yet to be confirmed by the US Senate. Dilawar currently serves as the president and chief executive officer of Lumiata.

Turkey and Pakistan to co-manufacture warplanes and missiles: report

Turkey is in talks to co-manufacture warplanes and missiles with Pakistan, a foreign media outlet claimed. Turkish defence and government officials have held periodic talks with Pakistani counterparts — the last high-level discussion was in January — about developing and manufacturing military hardware with Pakistan, according to people from both countries who are familiar with the negotiations. 

Pakistani skies to be seeing three new domestic airlines

Three new airlines have sought regulatory approval from Pakistan’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to launch operations. The scrutiny of two airlines – Q-Airlines and Fly Jinnah – has been completed while Jet Green Airlines is still going through the process. Following the completion of scrutiny, the applications would be sent to Aviation Division and then to the federal cabinet for final approvals.

Two health workers from Mayo Hospital in Lahore have tested positive for Covid-19 after having been administered a vaccine. The Mayo Hospital health support staffer and his staff nurse wife at the institution were among the seven employees administered the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine recently under a government drive to vaccinate health professionals.

Education institutions across country, except Sindh, return to normalcy

After a hiatus of months, all educational institutions of Pakistan are back to regular classes from today (Monday), except Sindh. Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood had announced last week that educational institutions across the country will be open five days a week from March 1. The federal government said the decision will apply to all educational institutions.

After a gap of nine years or so, the Istanbul-Islamabad freight train is likely to resume operations on March 4, connecting goods train business of three countries —Turkey, Iran and Pakistan. The container train would start its journey from Istanbul (Turkey) for Islamabad (Pakistan) via Zahidan on March 4. Though the schedule will be reconfirmed in a day or two.

GIKI wins big internationally at Design, Build, and Fly (DBF) competition 2020

Team Invictus of Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute (GIKI) of Engineering Sciences and Technology has won 34th place in the Design, Build, and Fly (DBF) competition 2020, hosted by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA). According to details, GIKI’s Team Invictus earned 81 points and was placed at 34th spot in the fourth and final round of the DBF
