Two oil tankers hit by explosions in Gulf of Oman: US blames Iran

Two oil tankers were hit by explosions in the Gulf of Oman on Thursday. A fireball erupted on Norwegian-owned MT Front Altair after a suspected torpedo attack caused three explosions, while Japanese-owned Kokuka Courageous was hit by another explosion. Mike Pompeo have blamed Iran for the attack based on investigations carried out on unexploded mine found on the vessel.

International Sikh community to donate £500 million to Pakistan

While meeting Chairman of Pakistan Tourism Board, Zulfiqar Bukhari, the Chairman of The Virdee Foundation, Peter Virdee, stated that over 500 million GBP (Rs. 96.5b) will be donated to Pakistan by Sikh businessmen to develop religious tourism. The meeting was organised between the two sides at Rembrandt Hotel, London, to discuss religious tourism and establishment of the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor.

Concealment of offshore assets to be punishable by 7 years in jail

The government, in order tighten the grip around offshore tax-evaders, have proposed that concealment of offshore assets worth above Rs100,000 would be deemed an offence punishable with imprisonment up to seven years or fine up to 200% of tax evaded amount or both. Names of individuals, who have evaded tax worth above Rs. 2.5m, will also be published in media.

Saudi Arabia might invest $4 Billion in Solar Projects in Baluchistan

Baluchistan has a huge potential for solar energy generation, and to tap this unexplored potential, the Government of Pakistan is in talks with Saudi Arabia for investment in the solar energy sector in Baluchistan. According to Power and Petroleum Minister, Omer Ayub Khan, talks are underway to attract investment worth $4 billion to uplift the energy sector in Baluchistan.

Pakistani officials to get visa on arrival for Malaysia

High Commissioner of Malaysia, Ikram Muhammad Ibrahim, has said Malaysia and Pakistan have reached an understanding to issue visas on arrival to officials of both the countries. The purpose of this is to further boost bilateral relations and promote and intensify exchange of official delegations. From April 15, 2019, both countries have started visa-on-arrival for their respective diplomatic and official passport holders.

Facebook investors want to oust Mark Zuckerberg as Chairman

Facebook’s independent investors are disgruntled with the way Mark Zuckerberg handled a series of Facebook scandals last year, which caused huge drop in Facebook’s share price. In Facebook’s annual shareholders meeting, 68% of outside investors voted for a proposal to oust Mark and hire an independent Chairman. However, Mark Zuckerberg, who owns 60% of the voting rights, rejected the proposal.

Amazon wants Pakistani manufacturers: Amazon.pk in plans

Officials from Amazon U.S. have reached out to enablers.pk to initiate the process of getting Pakistan listed on Amazon’s approved country list. Amazon wants to facilitate and on-board Pakistani manufacturers, especially, in home, bed linen and furnishing category. Officials also disclosed that Amazon.pk is certainly on the cards and expansion similar to Indian market is being planned for Pakistan.

Eid-ul-Fitr moon sighted: Mufti Popalzai

Mufti Shahabuddin Popalzai has announced at Masjid Qasim Ali Khan that the moon of Shawwal has been sighted in Peshawar and Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 4, 2019. The Federal Government has already announced that Met office predicted that the moon will be sighted in the country on Tuesday, June 4 and Eid will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 5, 2019.

Trump just called London Mayor Sadiq Khan a ‘stone cold loser’

Ahead of his three-day state visit to London, Donald Trump has taken to twitter to attack London Mayor Sadiq Khan and called him a “stone cold loser” who has done “terrible job” as London Mayor. Trump’s response came after the British-Pakistani Mayor compared Trump to fascist leader of 20th century who is promoting far right values and undermining liberal democracy.

British Airways flight lands in Islamabad

After a decade long hiatus, the British Airways’ first flight back landed at 11:25 am at Islamabad airport on Monday morning. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner flew 240 passengers from London’s Heathrow Airport to Islamabad Airport and will depart back at 11:10 am from Islamabad. British Airways will fly thrice a week between Heathrow and Islamabad during the 2019 summer.
