Comsats University Islamabad has launched a project on artificial intelligence worth Rs. 1 billion with an aim to equip the students with modern subjects related to artificial intelligence, robotics, cybersecurity, e-gaming, big data, and speed coding. To further this project, a consortium has been established which include six information and technology universities, which will further establish nine high-tech laboratories across Pakistan.
Khadija Siddiqi, who was stabbed 23 times in broad daylight in Lahore, has completed her bar degree from City Law School. Khadija Siddiqi has now officially become a barrister after passing 12 examinations. She graduates with an overall “very competent” grade. Her graduation ceremony for a “call to the bar” will be held at the Lincoln’s Inn in October.
An accountability court in Islamabad has summoned Maryam Nawaz on July 19 over the use of a bogus trust deed in the Avenfield properties case. Maryam was summoned after the NAB moved an application before accountability judge Mohammad Bashir. NAB Deputy Prosecutor General filed the application, seeking action against Maryam Nawaz for producing a bogus trust deed during her hearing.
The Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Ch in a Twitter post has said that religious clerics are the biggest threat to Pakistan. In his tweeter post, the sci-tech minister wrote that people from all sects should perform jihad against this attitude of Molvis, as 75% of our country’s problem arise due to such clerics.
A woman has claimed she was left alone in a dark and locked plane after falling asleep on a flight. Tiffani Adams took a 90-minute Air Canada flight from Quebec to Toronto on 9 June. Ms Adams fell asleep during the journey but woke up to find the aircraft empty, cleared and parked for the night in Toronto.
A Chinese environmental company is ready to invest $3 billion in the clean drinking water and sanitation system in Lahore, said PBIT Chairman Sardar Tanveer IIyas Khan. Although he did not disclose the name of the company saying negotiations were at early stages, he revealed that the same company had already completed a couple of hydro projects in Pakistan.
Domestic one tola and 10 gram gold prices hit fresh peak of Rs78,100 per tola and Rs66,958 per 10 grams, respectively, as international bullion prices surpassed $1,400 before retreating, still holding near a six-year high on the US central bank’s dovish stance on monetary policy. PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has appreciated the PPP-led Sindh government’s decision to set aside a Rs1 billion fund for the welfare of HIV infected patients. He also advised all other provinces to follow Sindh’s example. Pakistani currency weakened to a record low of Rs156 to the US dollar at the inter-bank market on Friday. The currency freshly lost Rs3.10 from yesterday’s close. A long list of import orders, which were not processed by banks due to Eid holidays, and external debt and interest payment in June end, are the cause of this latest devaluation.
