State Bank grants approval to NayaPay to operate as EMI

The State Bank of Pakistan has granted an in-principle approval to NayaPay to operate as an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) in Pakistan. The approval will enable the company to “commence pilot phase of transactions in a controlled environment and under the SBP’s supervision to seek approval for the commercial launch of its services”. With NayaPay, customers will be able to open e-money accounts.

Pakistan among top-20 improvers in World Bank’s ‘Doing Business 2020’ list

Pakistan has been listed among the ‘Top-20 improvers in Doing Business for the year 2020’ by World Bank. A statement by the World Bank said, “Pakistan improved in six areas measured by Doing Business—starting a business, dealing with construction permits, getting electricity, registering property, paying taxes and trading across borders—reflecting the country’s development of an ambitious reform strategy.”

36 kanals of land allegedly encroached upon by the Sharif family’s mills in Sahiwal some 37 years ago has been retrieved by the Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE). Ittefaq Sugar Mills had encroached upon an area of state land measuring 36 kanals and made part of it in 1982. However, it (mills) had shifted its machinery to Rahim Yar Khan to set up another sugar mills.

A video of a woman slapping a man who sexually harassed her on a bus from Multan to Islamabad has gone viral. The video that was initially made public by a Facebook user, shows an elderly man apologising while the woman accuses him of “constantly touching her back.” As soon as the video went public, several other platforms also shared it.

Shallow tremors rock Mirpur again as rainfall halts relief work

The earthquake affected area of Mirpur experienced another aftershock, as unexpected rainfall put relief work to a halt. Pakistan’s top meteorologist, Mohammad Riaz, said the epicentre of the 4.4-magnitude tremor was 12 kilometres deep. The shallow tremor sent terrified people running into the streets as area residents huddled in the streets following the quake, some still barefoot, while others recited verses from the Holy Quran.
