Britain’s government has announced new post-Brexit immigration plans that will allow international students to work in the country for two years after graduating. Currently, foreign students can stay in the UK for unto four months after graduation. The British government wants to increase the number of international students in Britain 30 per cent to 600,000 by 2030, with an emphasis on STEM subjects.
India’s cine body, Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) asked singer and actor, Diljit Dosanjh to cancel his appearance at an upcoming show being promoted by a Pakistani national. Diljit, who was supposed to perform at the US show on September 21 had been told to “cancel his commitment in the interest, sentiments and dignity of the nation”.
Humaira Farrukh is Pakistan’s first-ever female umpire who has officiated in more than 170 matches at different levels, according to the Pakistan Cricket Board. Apple Inc, in its biggest marketing event of the year, revealed a triple-camera iPhone, and it rolled out a streaming TV service priced at $5 a month, undercutting Disney and Netflix. Prices start at $699, down from last year’s new iPhone that started at $749. Apple said its new iPhone 11 will come with two back cameras, including an ultra wide-angle lens.
Former PTI MPA from Khyber Paktunkhwa has sought political asylum in India a year after being acquitted of murder charges. He was arrested in murder case of PTI leader Soran Singh, who was killed on April 22, 2016 in Buner district. Local media said he has moved to Ludhiana along with his family and requested Indian prime minister to grant him political asylum.
Inspector General of Police Arif Nawaz has forbidden officers below the rank of SHO from using video recording enabled smart phones inside police stations. The decision was taken following the increase in video clips displaying Punjab Police’s brutality and misconduct. Citizens too will not be allowed to take cellphones inside police stations and required to deposit them outside when they enter.
Pakistani short film ‘Darling’ won Best Short Film Award at the Venice Film Fest (VFF). Directed by Saim Sadiq, Darling premiered at ’VFF’s new Orrizzonti section. It qualifies as ’Pakistan’s first film to project in front of the oldest movie ’gala’s audience. Darling depicts the relationship between a trans girl and a young boy is a new concept altogether.
Days after being humiliated by a lawyer, a dejected Punjab police lady constable on Sunday resigned from her post saying “she cannot face the powerful corrupt mafia”. Advocate Ahmad Mukhtar had misbehaved and slapped constable Faiza Nawaz for wrongly parking his car in Ferozwala. The police arrested the lawyer on the complaint of the constable and registered a case against him.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced that mobile phone services would remain suspended on the 9th and 10th of Muharram for security reasons. The services will be suspended in specified areas of all the cities across the country. While the PTA did not confirm exact timings, the cellular services are expected to remain suspended from morning till 6pm on both days.
United States President Donald Trump has made an abrupt statement, cancelling peace talks with Afghanistan’s Taliban leaders. The US President announces his decision on Sunday morning after the group said it was behind an attack in Kabul that killed an American soldier and 11 other people. Trump said the Afghan Taliban did not follow ceasefire and should not be allowed to negotiate.
