JUI-F chief won’t be able to exploit ‘religious card’: Imran Khan

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday said Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman would not be able to use  “religious card” against the government at the instruction of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N). He manifested no fear of the JUI-F’s call for Islamabad lock down on 27th October while talking to a selected group of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf leaders. .

Maleeha Lodhi completed her tenure, was not fired: FO

The Foreign Office spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal has clarified that outgoing UN envoy, Maleeha Lodhi completed her tenure and was not fired. The Foreign Office also credited Dr Lodhi for Prime Minister Imran Khan’s successful participation in recent UN General Assembly session. The FO spokesman’s tweet came in response to ongoing speculation about reasons behind change of the envoy in New York.

‘It was our mistake,’ IAF chief admits downing its own chopper on Feb 27

IAF chief Rakesh Kumar Bhadauria has admitted that the Mi-17 chopper crash on 27th February was a ‘big mistake’ on the part of his force, according to India Today.  Bhadauria said that after the court inquiry concluded, it was ascertained that Indian chopper was brought down by its own missile and action will be taken against two officers who made the mistake. 

JUI-F to march on Islamabad on 27th October

Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) has announced to march on October 27 to oust the government. Rehman claimed that JUI-F delegations from across the country would join the “Azadi March” at Islamabad’s D-Chowk. Later, he added that this march is to get rid of PTI government which, according to him, “has destroyed the economy”.

UAE to invest $5 billion in oil refinery project in Hub

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will invest $5 billion in an oil refinery project in Hub, Pakistan by the end of the year, local news channel reported. The investment will be between Mubadala Petroleum Company of Abu Dhabi, Pak Arab Refinery Limited (Parco) and OMV [OMV Pakistan Exploration Gesellschaft], revealed UAE Ambassador to Pakistan Hamad Obaid Ibrahim Salem Al-Zaabi. 

Sales of oil products drop to six-and-a-half-year low in Pakistan

Sales of petroleum products dropped to a six-and-a-half-year low at 4.42 million tons in the quarter ended September 30, 2019, as a contraction in industrial output. Moreover, this is the eighth successive quarter in which oil sales continued to fall in the country. Major decline in sales of furnace oil and high-speed diesel was also witnessed due to lack of requirement in power generation and drop in vehicle sales.

Drug test to be made mandatory for teachers and students in Islamabad

Minister of State for Narcotics Control Shehryar Afridi told the Senate that drug test would be made mandatory for the school staff as well as the students of Islamabad in the near future. Further, he warned that anyone involved in propagation of drugs among youth would not be spared as well as anyone possessing/distributing crystal methamphetamine.

Pakistan denied claim to £35m in historical Nizam case by UK court

The UK High Court has denied funds amounting to £35 million to Pakistan by issuing a judgement in favour of the Nizam of Hyderabad. Nizam of Hyderabad had made claims in 1954 to the funds lying untouched in a London bank account since 1948, which were given to the then Pakistan high commissioner by the Finance Minster of Hyderabad State.
