A joint inquiry team formed by the government detected a total of 774 social media accounts responsible for smear campaign against the military, with many of them found to be operating from India as well. The revelations were made during a session of the committee summoned by Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah for a briefing on the progress made in the case so far.
Punjab Chief Minister Parvez Elahi has advised the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leadership to disassociate itself from the anti-army statement given by Shahbaz Gill, chief of staff to PTI chairman Imran Khan. At least six Pakistani nationals were convicted of violating the sanctity of the Masjid-e-Nabawi (PBUH) in Madina during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to Saudi Arabia. A court in Madina awarded 10-year jail term each to Anas, Irshad, Muhammad Saleem, while 8-year jail term each to Khawaja Luqman, Muhammad Afzal, and Ghulam Muhammad. The convicts were also fined Saudi Riyal 20,000 each.
The army has strongly condemned what it called “hurtful and derogatory” comments made by a certain group of people following the helicopter crash in which six army officers embraced martyrdom. When the news of the army helicopter going missing came, certain people on social media started making derogatory comments, wishing for the presence of top military leadership on the missing chopper.
