During the hearing, policemen carried Zahir Jaffer on a chair from the Bakshi khana – a temporary prison for under-trial prisoners – to the courtroom. His lawyer argued that his mental condition had deteriorated. Junior lawyer Usman Riaz Gul represented Zahir on behalf of the accused, as Advocate Sikandar Zulqarnain Saleem did not appear. The lawyer later appeared via video connection.
The judge was also informed of Zahir’s absence by Akram Qureshi, counsel for Therapyworks owner Tahir Zahoor, one of the co-accused. Qureshi said Zahir was unable to walk because of his condition.
