Punjab govt makes Holy Quran teaching compulsory in schools and colleges

The Punjab government makes Holy Quran teaching compulsory for students of classes I-XII throughout the province. In a notification today, it was stated that students from basic education through class V would receive an education in Quranic Naazrah. Additionally, the remaining classes will be taught Quran with translation. In 2021, a law passed by the government mandated that all public and private schools teach Muslims the Holy Quran.

Additionally, the Punjab government made the subject mandatory for university students last year. This step comes as a result of the Punjab Compulsory Teaching of Holy Quran Act, 2018. The subject will be taught three to four times a week and a 50-point annual exam will reflect students’ progress.
