Nisha Rao becomes first Pakistani transgender student to get admission in MPhil program

Nisha Rao, a lawyer, and activist became Pakistan’s first transgender student to be admitted to a Mphil equivalent program to study law. Her passion to accomplish higher education led her to be the first person from a marginalized community to reach this level. Nisha Rao has achieved admission to the University of Karachi’s LLM program.

She became Pakistan’s first transgender law graduate from the Sindh Muslim Government Law College in 2020. The transgender student is overjoyed upon finding out about her admission. As per Rao, she took the entrance exam four months ago and was informed about admission four days ago. According to Rao, transgender students face challenges when it comes to pursuing education because of a lack of resources.
