During a telephonic conversation, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salmanbin Abdulaziz has invited Prime Minister Imran Khan to visit the kingdom on his way back from New York where he would be attending the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session. During the conversation, the premier said that it was Pakistan’s top priority to develop relations with Saudi Arabia.
Foreign Office spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal has revealed that Pakistan has formally approached the Indian government with an offer to grant consular access to Kulbhushan Jadhav. The Indian spy was sentenced by Pakistan on charges of esionage and terrorism but after the decision made by International Court of Justice (ICJ) last month, Jadhav is now being granted consular access. The official expenses of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s maiden three-day trip to United States have been released by the federal government. PM Imran’s visit cost almost Rs11 million to the national exchequer, which comes down to $67,180. In comparison, according to the government’s claim, former premier Nawaz Sharif had doled out $549,854 during his 2015 trip to US whereas PPP Supremo Asif Zardari spent $752,682.
The opposition remains shocked as its no-trust resolution to de-seat incumbent Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani failed. Out of the 100 senators who cast their vote, 50 were cast in favour of the de-seating resolution, 5 votes were rejected while 45 votes were cast in Sanjrani’s favour. The ruling party and its allies have 36 senators, meaning that 9 opposition senators voted for Sanjrani. There were also 3 abstentions.
Mahira Khan has finally broken her silence over Firdous Jamal’s ageist remarks about her, saying she will stay in the industry till she can play grandmother. In an interview with a local newspaper, Mahira said that she has already played the character of a mother in Humsafar and would be more than happy to play it again. “I plan on staying in the industry till I’m playing a grandmother and even a great grandmother” she threw in with a sassy smile.
Indian Air Force launched an air-combat mobile game featuring a character resembling to wing commander Abhinandan Varthaman, who was shot down and captured by Pakistan earlier this year. The Android and iOS based mobile game ‘Indian Air Force: A Cut Above’ will let players fly different aircraft and complete various missions. Abhinandan’s character has been used to promote the game.
The government has announced a four-day holiday on accounts of Eidul Azha and Independence Day. According to the Interior Ministry notification issued on Wednesday, August 12 to 15 (Monday to Thursday) have been declared public holidays. Last month, Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry had announced this year’s dates for Eidul Azha and the beginning of the month of Muharram, based on scientific evidence.
Pakistan Super League (PSL)’s franchise Multan Sultans’ owner Ali Tareen has clarified on the issue regarding team’s annual franchise fee. Tareen said that the team was bought close to the start of HBL PSL4, which is why the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) asked them to pay a portion of the franchise fee upfront and the remainder after the tournament.
The Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Multan Sultans apparently participated in fourth season of HBL PSL without depositing mandatory franchise fee. Reportedly, the annual amount of $6.35 million, needs to be deposited before start of the season. However, four months having gone by and the Multan Consortium, led by Ali Khan Tareen has not made payment to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
PTI leader and former finance minister Asad Umar has said that according to his assessment inflation rates would peak in next two to four months. While speaking on a local news channel, Umar said that after few months, slowly inflation rate would start going down, which would be reflected in monetary policy and hence, interest rates would also go down.
