World’s biggest face recognition system to be built in India

India is building the world’s biggest face recognition system, according to an official announcement made to the international media. The automate facial recognition aims to identify suspects immediately across the country. The system would work by matching images from the CCTV network across the country against the database maintained of mug-shots of criminals, passport photos and images collected by various government agencies. 

Saudi Arabia may allow women to perform Hajj without ‘mahram’

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is mulling possibility of allowing women to perform Hajj without a male guardian. According to Arab News, the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah is conducting researches to issue visit visas for both tourism and Umrah purposes, and this process is expected to pave the way for allowing women to come without a mahram (male guardian).

Longest continuous flight record set by Qantas Airways

Australian airline, Qantas Airways set a record of longest non stop flight i.e. 19 hours and 16 minutes from New York City to Sydney under a project. During the research, pilots’ brain waves, alertness and efficiency were monitored. For further research, two additional flights will be carried out as part of the airline’s effort while carrying out long flights, as the final decision is expected at the end of this year.

Turkish President threw Trump’s letter ‘in the bin’

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan threw US President Donald Trump’s letter “in the bin”, reported Turkish presidential sources.  President Erdogan received the letter, thoroughly rejected it and put it in the bin,” they said. The US president warned his Turkish counterpart in a letter dated October 9, to work out “a good deal” and avoid being branded as a “devil”.

“Don’t be a fool,” Donald Trump has warned his counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan in his latest letter. The letter was sent the day Turkey launched its incursion into northeastern Syria. Modi threatens to stop water flow to Pakistan

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has threatened that his government will stop water flowing to Pakistan and divert it to Haryana state. Addressing an election rally in Charkhi Dadri, Haryana, Modi said, “For 70 years, the water which belongs to India and the farmers of Haryana flowed to Pakistan. I will stop this water and bring it to your houses.”

Mexican mayor tied to truck, dragged through street in protest

Mexican mayor Escandon dragged through the town in southern Mexico from the back of a pickup truck by the angry farmers in protest. The mayor was dragged several meters down the street before police stepped in and freed him. Escandon inculpated the farmers of trying to coerce him.  The attackers were demanding more public resources, including direct cash transfers, for their rural community according to the State prosecutor. 

Scotland Yard charges Altaf Hussain for ‘encouraging terrorism’ in Karachi in 2016

The founder of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Altaf Hussain, has been charged by Scotland Yard in incitement speech inquiry for Intentionally Encouraging or Assisting Offences, Contrary to Section 44 of the Serious Crime Act 2007. India receives first Rafale fighter jet from France

France has delivered to India its first Rafale fighter jet from a series of 36 aircraft purchased in a multi-billion dollar deal in 2016. Defence Minister Florence Parly and her Indian counterpart Rajnath Singh, who is on a three-day visit to France, attended a ceremony at aircraft maker Dassault Aviation facility in Merignac, southwestern France. The $8.78 billion deal sparked controversy in India last year.
