National Assembly decorated by the Hindu community for 14th August

The National Assembly is decorated with a massive national flag, prepared by the country’s Hindu community with over 60,000 balloons. Installed on one side of the main entrance, the 40-feet flag covers the whole area from floor to ceiling of the assembly hall. Students belonging to different educational institutions across the country are also invited to visit the Parliament House on August 14.

Exiting FATF grey list crucial for Pakistan’s IMF deal

International Monetary Fund (IMF) Resident Representative Teresa Daban has said that it is essential for Pakistan to exit the grey list of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) in order to secure private sector credit to meet external financing needs. “Failure to exit from the FATF grey list is a risk to the recently approved $6 billion IMF deal,” said Daban.

Najam Sethi gets served a Rs. 10 billion defamation notice by PM Imran

Veteran journalist Najam Sethi has been served a defamation notice of Rs. 10 billion by Prime Minister Imran Khan’s counsel Babar Awan. Sethi has been served for claiming on his TV show that Bushra Bibi, Khan’s wife, had filed for divorce. Azhar Laghari, the Central Head of PTI’s Public Relations, shared the copy of the notice on his Twitter handle.

200 sexual abuse cases solved by Pakpattan’s first female SHO

SHO Kulsoom Fatima, appointed two months ago in Pakpattan has manifested remarkable performance by solving 200 sexual abuse cases in her short tenure. In an interview to British Broadcasting Channel (BBC), Fatima revealed that she always wanted to do something for victims of sexual abuse. Luckily, she was appointed sub-inspector in Punjab Police and that gave her opportunity to work on her dream job.

An engineer by profession, Kulsoom Abdullah is a Pakistani-American Ph.D. scholar and is the first Muslim woman in the world to compete in an international weightlifting event while wearing Hijab. Pakistan Railways suffered 74 accidents over past 11 months

The Ministry of Railways has stated that Pakistan Railways suffered 74 accidents nationwide over a period of 11 months, between August 2018 to June 2019. Out of 74 accidents, 20 accidents were of freight trains derailing while another 20 occurred at unmanned railway crossings. Despite claims by PTI Railway Minister, Sheikh Rasheed, no significant improvement has been made in the fate of Pakistan Railways. 

Saudi Crown Prince personally invites PM to visit Saudi Arabia

During a telephonic conversation, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salmanbin Abdulaziz has invited Prime Minister Imran Khan to visit the kingdom on his way back from New York where he would be attending the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session. During the conversation, the premier said that it was Pakistan’s top priority to develop relations with Saudi Arabia. 

In accordance with ICJ’s decision, Pakistan offers consular access to Jadhav

Foreign Office spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal has revealed that Pakistan has formally approached the Indian government with an offer to grant consular access to Kulbhushan Jadhav. The Indian spy was sentenced by Pakistan on charges of esionage and terrorism but after the decision made by International Court of Justice (ICJ) last month, Jadhav is now being granted consular access. PM’s trip to US cost Rs.11mn as opposed to Sharif’s 88mn, Zardari’s 120mn

The official expenses of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s maiden three-day trip to United States have been released by the federal government. PM Imran’s visit cost almost Rs11 million to the national exchequer, which comes down to $67,180. In comparison, according to the government’s claim, former premier Nawaz Sharif had doled out $549,854 during his 2015 trip to US whereas PPP Supremo Asif Zardari spent $752,682.

Chairman Senate survives no-confidence by Opposition

The opposition remains shocked as its no-trust resolution to de-seat incumbent Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani failed. Out of the 100 senators who cast their vote, 50 were cast in favour of the de-seating resolution, 5 votes were rejected while 45 votes were cast in Sanjrani’s favour. The ruling party and its allies have 36 senators, meaning that 9 opposition senators voted for Sanjrani. There were also 3 abstentions.
