PTI government decides to distribute Sehat Insaf Cards to transgender community

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government has decided to provide the transgender community with free medical services through the Sehat Insaf Card Program. Prime Minister PM Khan distributed the cards among the transgender persons in a special ceremony held in PM House. Under the scheme, the treatment for angioplasty, brain surgery, cancer and other diseases will be done free of cost.

PM Imran’s trip to Davos to be ‘most economical’ in last 10 years

Prime Minister Imran Khan’s trip to Davos, Switzerland next month will be most economical compared to his predecessors, the government claimed on Monday. Total expenditure of the three-day visit, in which the premier along with his delegation will attend annual World Economic Forum (WEF) summit, is estimated to be at $68,000. Previous governments spent lavishly on their visits to the Swiss city in comparison.

Bilawal offers MQM ministries in exchange for breaking alliance with PTI

Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari offered Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) ministries in Sindh in exchange for the party breaking off its alliance with Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI). Bilawal said if MQM breaks off its alliance with PTI and manages to get Sindh its share in resources, the provincial government will “stand by [MQM] for the sake of Karachi’s people. 

WAPDA breaks records for hydel power production in 2019

A record amount of hydel electricity was supplied to the national grid during the year 2019 by WAPDA. The hydel power stations owned and operated by WAPDA provided 34.678 billion units of hydel electricity – highest-ever – to the system in 2019. This quantum of generation is 6.321 billion units higher compared with last year i.e. 28.357 billion units. 

Fawad Chaudhry calls for FIA-NAB merger

Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry on Saturday called for the merger of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) into a single agency. Chaudhry also called for talks between the opposition and the government to ensure that such an agency could be formed. Currently, the two bodies are independent but their jurisdictions and operations overlap in some areas.

CNG stations open in Karachi for 12 hours

Hordes of citizens in Karachi made a beeline for compressed natural gas (CNG) stations on Sunday morning after operations resumed temporarily from 7am until 7pm. Sindh government held the Centre responsible for the ongoing gas shortage in the province. Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL )has held a meeting with the CNG leaders’ association and it was decided that a proper schedule will be announced in the next week according to which gas supply for CNG stations will be ensured.

Pervez Musharraf files petition against death sentence

Former military dictator General Pervez Musharraf has filed a petition against his death sentence for suspending the country’s Constitution on November 3, 2017. His lawyer, Advocate Azhar Siddique, filed on Friday a review plea in the Lahore High Court. In his 86-page petition, Musharraf has raised objections against the paragraph 66 of the written order and it also claims  that Musharraf wasn’t given a chance to present his stance in the case. 

Sanaullah granted bail because of ‘lapses in prosecution’s case’

Rana Sanaullah was granted bail because of the “lapses in the prosecution’s case”, according to the court verdict released on Thursday.  The PML-N leader, however, argued that a false case was registered against him for political victimisation “as the petitioner being a vocal leader of the opposition was openly criticising the policies of the sitting government”, says the court document.  

PTI govt approves 15% cut in medicine prices

The federal cabinet on Tuesday gave the approval to a 15% cut in the prices of 89 essential and life-saving medicines with immediate effect. According to the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Health Services Dr Zafar Mirza, many of the medicines whose prices are being decreased are used in treating heart diseases and blood pressure. Earlier this year, the prices of medicine were increased by 15% due to the devaluation of the rupee. 

Govt announces plans to start ferry service

Ministry of Maritime Affairs has announced plans to start Ferry service for different destinations in the Middle East, including Dubai, Jeddah, Basra, and Amman. According to Ali Zaidi, Minister for Maritime Affairs, Ferry services require a NOC from the Ministry of Defense. According to the upcoming policy, freight rates would be charged in local currency instead of Dollars, this would cut the cost of doing business.
