Eight-year-old is highest paid YouTuber, earns $26m a year

Eight-year-old Ryan Kaji earned $26 million in 2019 on his YouTube channel, making him the highest-paid Youtuber, according to a list published by Forbes magazine. His channel “Ryan’s World”  that was initially called as “Ryan ToysReview” was launched by his parents in 2015 and mostly consisted of unboxing videos. The channel has also evolved as Ryan ages, now offering more educational videos in addition to the toys.

Poor security measures at schools are putting students at risk

Public schools in Punjab don’t have any robust security measures in place which puts them at significant risk, according to a report of a security audit  conducted of over 4000 schools. The main issues found in the report included schools having no boundary walls or walk through gates and absence CCTV cameras. Moreover, schools have no scanners while security guards let visitors go inside school premises without physical search. 

Judge receives flak over judgement to ‘hang dead body’ in Musharraf treason case

Earlier in the day, the Special Court issued a detailed judgement in the high treason case against former president Pervez Musharraf. However, one of the judge received severe criticism for favoring exemplary punishment for the ex military personnel. Attorney General of Pakistan Anwar Mansoor Khan termed the judge as ‘mentally ill’, adding that the verdict is seemingly given on basis of enmity.

TikTok star Hareem Shah revealed in a Twitter post that she was verbally and sexually harassed by  a large group of men in Dubai. The decision set up a Senate trial on removing him from office after three turbulent years. By a 230 to 197 vote in Democratic-majority House, Trump became the third occupant of the White House in American history to be impeached.

Indian police bans protests to control demonstrations against citizenship bill

Indian police detained more than 100 protesters in key Indian cities for defying ban on protests that authorities hope to stop widespread demonstrations against a new citizenship law. Internet service was blocked in some parts of New Delhi, a tactic Indian authorities are known to use in other parts of the country, such as occupied Kashmir, to try to stop protests from being organised. 

Detailed verdict says military personnel who supported Musharraf should also be accountable

The detailed verdict in the high treason case against former military ruler retired Gen Pervez Musharraf was released, after the special court handed him a death sentence. The verdict is split 2-1, with Justice Shahid Karim of the Lahore High Court agreeing with Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Waqar Ahmad Seth and Justice Nazar Akbar of the Sindh High Court dissenting.

In a bid to alleviate health standards for doctors, Dr. Farah Roslan came up with the concept of disposable hijabs. The project of disposable hijabs did not cost much and the NHS hopes the product will be available for doctors by December.

Pakistan faces gas shortage as temperature drops

Pakistan is facing gas outages as demand has exceeded supply following an abrupt drop in temperature in different parts of the country. The situation resulted in long queues outside tandoors due to low gas pressure at residences and prompted Karachi-based Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) to suddenly suspend supplies to CNG fuel stations in Sindh and Balochistan to keep supplies to households normal on Tuesday. 

Pakistan is ranked 3rd lowest in gender equality

According to a report,  titled “Global Gender Gap Report 2020” published by the World Economic Forum examining gender equality around the globe, Pakistan was ranked third-lowest in the world. Pakistan being at 151st position out of 153 countries. The Global Gender Gap Report measures the progress of a country’s gender equality in four areas; economic participation and opportunity, educational attainment, health and survival, and political empowerment.
