The official of the US Embassy in Pakistan clarified that Americans are subject to the laws in a foreign country. In addition, it stated that the Embassy can check on Americans who have been arrested abroad, and provide a list of lawyers. However, cannot provide legal advice, participate in court proceedings, or facilitate their release.
The U.S. Embassy’s statement followed the arrest of Zahir Jaffer, who was accused of killing Noor Mukadam in Islamabad. Islamabad police claimed on Monday that Jaffer had admitted killing Noor Mukadam. Additionally, video evidence was collected which showed the accused torturing the victim.
