Afghanistan wants to host Pakistan’s cricket team for bilateral ODI series

Afghanistan’s newly-appointed cricket chairman Azizullah Fazli said on Wednesday that he would invite Pakistan for bilateral ODI series. Over the past few years, Afghanistan has risen steadily in the international cricket rankings, especially with stars such as spinner Rashid Khan. There have been calls for a boycott of the men’s team since the takeover by the hardline Taliban last month.

Afghanistan’s future participation in Test matches has been thrown into doubt due to the change of government. International Cricket Council regulations stipulate that nations must have active women’s teams as well. Taliban officials have not announced a policy on women playing sports, but a senior official says that it is unwarranted.
