Two groups of under-trial prisoners clashed while they were being presented before a Lahore court on Monday leading to the escape of at least 12 prisoners. Authorities said they had been able to re-arrest two of the fleeing prisoners. Additional steps are being taken to apprehend the others. It occurred in Model Town, Lahore when 166 prisoners were brought to district courts for hearings.
Lahore SSP (Operations) Mustansar Feroze says the fight began between groups of under-trial prisoners who were kept in the “bakhshi khana” of the court. The video showed prisoners throwing bricks and furniture from the lock-up. A few of them were seen climbing over chairs to flee as police watched helplessly. It appears that one police officer was hit with a stone.
