TikTok star Ghani Tiger’s father was gunned down in Sialkot two days ago. Police have arrested three people nominated in the FIR while the affected family has continued its appeals for justice. The incident happened in Sialkot’s tehsil Pasroor. A children’s squabble two days ago led to firing which killed Ghani Tiger’s father Dawood Butt while five people, including Ghani’s brother, were injured.
TikTok, the fast-growing mobile video app, pledged Thursday to contribute $250 million to coronavirus relief efforts around the world. The funds would be for front line medical workers, educators, and local communities deeply affected by the global crisis. The move follows similar announcements from technology firms including Google, Facebook and Netflix as well as from leaders of Microsoft, Amazon and Twitter.
The administration of Peshawar’s Islamia College University has forced its students to delete their TikTok short video sharing accounts after receiving complaints against them. After being annoyed with the addictive usage of the TikTok, the varsity administration took action by ordering five students to delete their accounts. A student has also registered a complaint to Prime Minister’s complaint cell against the excessive usage of TikTok which could create problems for female students.
Short-video platform, TikTok has dethroned Facebook to become the second most downloaded app in the world behind WhatsApp. Since launching in 2017, the app has been downloaded more than 1.5 billion times. Recently the app hit 1.5 billion downloads worldwide, outperforming Instagram. Anyone with a smartphone can use TikTok to tell their own story in under 60 seconds.
Actor-host Fahad Mustafa called out the video sharing app, TikTok, after a Sialkot based 16-year-old killed himself while filming a TikTok video with his friends. In light of the tragic incident, Mustafa took to Twitter and urged parents to not let their kids use the app. However, Twitter was rather unhappy with Fahad’s statement, owing to the insubstantial content on his controversial game show.
A three-part series on TikTok by an Afghan-American teenager has gone viral for spreading awareness of China’s treatment of at least a million Uighur Muslims. Feroza Aziz, 17, who uses TikTok to upload makeup tutorials, has claimed her videos are being censored. Feroza begins by appearing to show viewers how to use an eyelash curler and then urges them to search what’s happening in China.
China’s ByteDance, owner of video-sharing app TikTok, booked revenue of $7 billion to $8.4 billion in a better than expected result for the first half of the year. The owner also posted a profit in June and was confident of making a similar or better profit in the second half of the year. Tiktok’s robust growth has led to revise its revenue target for 2019 from 100 billion yuan to 120 billion yuan.
