Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) is staring at a possible flour crisis as its wheat supply has been cut down by the Punjab government. Due to a sudden disruption of wheat supply the flour prices have increased by Rs. 80 for a 20kg bag in the province. KP receives 95 percent of its wheat supply from Punjab, which has been completely cut for the past couple of days without any reason given by the Punjab government, according to Muhammad Iqbal, chairman Pakistan Flour Mills Association KP.
Punjab Cabinet approved measures to increase fines for car drivers in a bid to dissuade traffic violations in the province. Fines for motorbike drivers have been increased to Rs. 300 from Rs. 200 whereas for car drivers from Rs. 500 to Rs. 700. According to the Provincial Minister Aslam Iqbal the raise in fines for traffic rules violation will not only help ensure better traffic management but will also create more caution.
Two motorbike manufacturers are working together in Sahiwal, Punjab to manufacture electric motorbikes in Pakistan. Electric bikes which has almost become a need for the middle-class motorbike riders due to a rise in fuel prices were introduced earlier by many companies but didn’t win any public attention as they were very costly.
The District Education Authority (DEA) has imposed a ban on the selling of fried food items in schools of all the districts of Punjab whereas a letter has also been sent to educational institutions in this regard. The banned items include samosas, pakoras, fried potato chips and any food item which has been fried because these things are cooked in sub-standard oil.
In order to ensure smooth flow of traffic during peak hours, the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has banned entry of heavy travelling vehicles (HTV) in the federal capital for seven hours on daily basis. Entry of heavy traffic in the city would not be allowed from 7 am to 10 am and from 4 pm to 8 pm for maximum convenience for road users.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz lawmaker Attaur Rehman, accused of rape and blackmail of a university student in Multan for 11 months, has apparently fled the country. The Punjab Assembly lawmaker flew from Multan to United Arab Emirates (UAE) in order to avoid a possible arrest. Rehman had allegedly raped a first-year MSCS student and was using video of the rape to threaten her.
Noorul Hassan, a taxi driver from Sadiqabad, who underwent treatment in Lahore for health complications caused by obesity, passed away on Monday. Reportedly, Hassan was left unattended due to commotion in the intensive care unit (ICU) of the hospital after relatives of a dead patient wrecked havoc at the facility by breaking windows and switching off ventilators.
After videos of tourists being harassed by locals in Murree went viral on social media, Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar deployed Dolphin Force in the area for security of tourists and citizens. The force, which has begun patrolling the area, has been ordered to take prompt action against criminals, and also aid the administration in controlling traffic problems.
Umar Raza, a citizen of Lahore, who was going to a medical store, was reportedly shot and injured in the leg by Lahore’s ‘elite’ Dolphin force after he did not follow the Squad team’s signal to stop. Raza was then taken to a police station instead of hospital and forced to sign a statement that he was a robber.
As opposed to the Rs. 30 increment proposed by The Punjab Mass Transit Authority (PMTA), a Rs. 10 increase in the metro bus fares will now be implemented from July 1st, in accordance with the new provincial budget. As a result of the increased prices, the government subsidy to the service is due to fall by Rs. 800 million.
