The PCB announced on Saturday that all-rounder Shoaib Malik will replace batter Sohaib Maqsood in the squad for this month’s Men’s T20 World Cup. The PCB reported that Maqsood had been ruled out of the squad because of a lower back injury. Chief selector Mohammad Wasim expressed regret over the decision to drop Maqsood from the squad.

Wasim said that after discussions with the management, it had been decided to include Malik in the side. Malik captained Pakistan in the inaugural Men’s T20 World Cup in 2007 and played on the side that won the tournament in 2009. He had missed the 2010 West Indies event, but had played in the 2012, 2014 and 2016 tournaments.
