Pakistan’s telecom regulator said on Thursday that the country’s production of mobile phones has surpassed its imports of mobile phones. This milestone was reached within seven months after the introduction of the Mobile Device Manufacturing (MDM) authorization regime. PTA said it allows foreign and local companies to manufacture devices in Pakistan. Moreover, PTA said this trend reflected an uptake in MDM authorization following the enactment of its regulatory regime. The PTA has authorized 26 companies to manufacture mobile devices in Pakistan to date, including Samsung, Nokia, Oppo, TECNO, Infinix, Vgotel, and Q-mobile.
