New Zealand Furniture Store sells ‘charpai’ as ‘Vintage Indian Daybed’

A New Zealand-based furniture company decided to take a traditional ‘charpai’ and up-market it to around 95,469 rupees on sale. ANNABELLE’S, a home design business, advertises its “‘Vintage Indian daybed” on their website. This is a typical hand-woven cot found in India and Pakistan, called a charpai. Originally, the item was priced at $1200.

In the FAQ section on the site, it mentions “On trips to India, China, and Indonesia, every piece is handmade, old and unique so not being able to see the proper color and finish in person is a real challenge,” implying that the bed was also inspired by this region.
