Shehbaz Sharif orders for renewal of Nawaz Sharif’s and Ishaq Dar’s passports

Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday directed the interior ministry to issue a diplomatic passport to former prime minister Nawaz Sharif. Shehbaz Sharif after assuming charge of his office got a briefing from the diplomatic staff about the issuance of a passport to Nawaz and Ishaq Dar. However, the diplomatic staff said only Sharif can be issued a diplomatic passport, not Dar.

 FIA arrests mastermind and six others for ‘maligning’ Pakistan Army online

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested a “mastermind” and at least six others members of his network for alleged attempt to ‘malign’ the Pakistan army. The group was involved in launching a Twitter trend against the Pakistan Army and security institutions, following recent political developments in the country. The drive against the security institutions began with the ouster of Imran Khan as the prime minister.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif calls urgent meeting with leading economists

Newly appointed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called an urgent meeting on Tuesday with leading economists, to discuss in detail the current dire economic situation facing the country. PM Sharif reached the office at 8am, ahead of official office hours, and announced a change in the working hours of government offices. The offices are now to start their day at 8am instead of 10am.

After attempts to delay the vote of no-confidence for more than 12 hours, Imran Khan eventually lost the vote and was de-notified as the Prime Minister of Pakistan on Monday 9th April, 2022. Deputy Speaker National Assembly’s ruling termed null and void by Supreme Court

The Supreme Court on Thursday set aside deputy speaker’s ruling to dismiss the no-trust resolution against Prime Minister Imran. It also dismissed the subsequent dissolution of the NA by the president on the PM’s advice, with all five judges unanimously voting 5-0 against it. The SC then ordered for session of National Assembly to reconvene on Saturday.

Hijab-wearing criminal barrister becomes first to be appointed Queen’s Counsel

A hijab-wearing lawyer has been appointed to the Queen’s Counsel, the first criminal barrister to do so. Sultana Tafadar QC, of No5 Barristers’ Chambers in London, celebrated taking silk at a ceremony at the Palace of Westminster. The Luton-born lawyer with Bangladeshi roots hopes her success will provide inspiration and confidence for other female lawyers from black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds.
