Facebook plans to change its company name next week to reflect its focus on building the metaverse. This next name change signals the company’s desire to be known for something other than social media and its ills. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg discussed rebranding the company during the company’s Connect conference on October 28th but could be announced sooner.
The company has more than 10,000 employees already building consumer hardware such as AR glasses. The company believes these glasses will be as common as smartphones in the coming years. Furthermore, a rebrand would help to further separate Facebook’s futuristic ambition from the intense scrutiny it currently faces for the way its social platform operates today.
