Pervez Musharraf files petition against death sentence

Former military dictator General Pervez Musharraf has filed a petition against his death sentence for suspending the country’s Constitution on November 3, 2017. His lawyer, Advocate Azhar Siddique, filed on Friday a review plea in the Lahore High Court. In his 86-page petition, Musharraf has raised objections against the paragraph 66 of the written order and it also claims  that Musharraf wasn’t given a chance to present his stance in the case. 

Sanaullah granted bail because of ‘lapses in prosecution’s case’

Rana Sanaullah was granted bail because of the “lapses in the prosecution’s case”, according to the court verdict released on Thursday.  The PML-N leader, however, argued that a false case was registered against him for political victimisation “as the petitioner being a vocal leader of the opposition was openly criticising the policies of the sitting government”, says the court document.  

PTI govt approves 15% cut in medicine prices

The federal cabinet on Tuesday gave the approval to a 15% cut in the prices of 89 essential and life-saving medicines with immediate effect. According to the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Health Services Dr Zafar Mirza, many of the medicines whose prices are being decreased are used in treating heart diseases and blood pressure. Earlier this year, the prices of medicine were increased by 15% due to the devaluation of the rupee. 

Govt announces plans to start ferry service

Ministry of Maritime Affairs has announced plans to start Ferry service for different destinations in the Middle East, including Dubai, Jeddah, Basra, and Amman. According to Ali Zaidi, Minister for Maritime Affairs, Ferry services require a NOC from the Ministry of Defense. According to the upcoming policy, freight rates would be charged in local currency instead of Dollars, this would cut the cost of doing business. 

Lahore Ring Road’s toll tax gets a massive hike

The administration  has hiked the toll tax on the Lahore’s Ring Road, increasing it by up to Rs. 100. There has been an increase in all the categories with the biggest being in the truck/trailer one, which has gone from Rs. 350 to Rs. 450. The transporters have hit back at the hike terming these consistent increases as a serious damage to their business.

NAB given 13 day physical remand of Ahsan Iqbal

An accountability court in Islamabad on Monday granted the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) 13-day physical remand of senior PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal. Iqbal is accused of using funds from the federal government and the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) for a sports city being established in Narowal — a multi-billion-rupee project. While he was presented before the court, NAB did not have any evidence against him, according to PML-N spokesperson Maryam Aurangzeb. 

NAB arrests Ahsan Iqbal in Narowal Sports City case

Senior PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal has been arrested by the National Accountability Bureau in Narowal Sports City case, according to a NAB spokesperson. Iqbal, a former interior minister, is accused of causing losses worth billions to the national exchequer by initiating the Sports City project in his home constituency. According to NAB officials, the Pakistan Sports Board also illegally used its authority for the construction of the sports city.

Prices of wheat and sugar soar in Karachi

The prices of wheat and sugar have increased in Karachi, a kilogram of wheat now costs Rs46 and sugar prices have increased by Rs1.5 per kg. The price of a 100kg bag of wheat has increased by Rs300 in the open market while in the wholesale market, a bag of wheat now costs Rs4,600

Sindh govt announces public holiday on December 27

The Sindh government has announced a public holiday on December 27 (Friday) on account of the death anniversary of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto. All offices, autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies, corporations and local councils falling under the control of the provincial government would remain closed on the day, the notification read. 

Bahrain-Kalam road completed by PTI

The construction work of the Bahrain-Kalam road that was initiated in 2017, under the government of PML-N, is finally completed by the current government of PTI. It took more than 3 hours of rough journey to Kalam; now the same route has been reduced to a 45 minutes drive. Kalam is one of the top destinations of Pakistan. However, the bumpy and rough roads reduced its visitors almost to a null.
