Flour price increased to Rs64 in Punjab after surge in wheat prices

The Flour Mills Association (FMA) on Saturday increased the price of flour to Rs64 per kg in the whole Punjab after an increase of Rs4. The price was increased after a surge in wheat price by Rs7 per kg, according to a FMA spokesperson, adding that the situation had gone from bad to worse after the government hiked electricity and gas tariffs.

Importing mobile phones has just become 86% cheaper

Importing a mobile phone has become 86% cheaper as the FBR slashes import duties for phones that cost $100 or less. The sales tax on importing mobile phones that cost up to $100 has been reduced from Rs1,320 to Rs200 while the withholding tax has been decreased from Rs750 to Rs200.  The overall mobile imports increased by 58% in the Financial year 2019 (July to November 2019). 

Pakistan will promote peace, not take sides in US-Iran conflict: DG ISPR

Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asif Ghafoor said that Pakistan will only play the role of a peacemaker and not take sides in the ongoing conflict between the United States and neighbouring Iran. He also added that Pakistan has defeated terrorism on its territory and will not allow its soil to be used against any other country.

Brazil sued Facebook for yet another privacy breach

Earlier this week Brazil announced to fine Facebook $1.6 million for privacy breach.  According to the Consumer Protection department of the ministry, that information of 443,000 people had been shared with one of the apps called “thisisyourdigitallife”. The ministry claims that the data was shared with the app for very concerning reasons.

Shia organisations to protest Soleimani killing at Karachi’s US Consulate

Shia organisations are holding a rally in Karachi today (Sunday) against the killing of Qasem Soleimani, an Iranian general and the chief of the IRGC’s Quds Force, and and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, a leader of Hashd al-Shaabi. The protest will begin at the Karachi Press Club at 3pm and demonstrators will march to the US Consulate on Mai Kolachi. Roads leading to the US Consulate have been closed ahead of the rally.

Groom in D.G Khan showers mobile phones on his wedding

During a wedding in Dera Ghazi Khan, the brother of the groom showered mobile phones and money on the people at the wedding. As the barat made its way towards the destination, money and phones tricked down from the top of the truck to everyone who was surrounding the vehicle. It was said that the groom’s brother kept on showering money and phones for about half an hour.

Pakistan’s forex reserves cross the $18 Billion mark

Pakistan foreign exchange reserves surged to $18.01 billion from $17.595 billion with the fresh inflows of $582 million from various global agencies by the end of 2019. The foreign exchange reserves held by commercial banks stand at $6.592 billion. The exchange reserves of commercial banks are slightly reducing as Dollar’s investors are offloading their savings in the open markets.

I’m honoured if Coldplay copied my music video: Abullah Qureshi

After the speculations arose about the two music videos, Abdullah qureshi  said that he feels honoured if Coldplay copied his music video and got inspired by his work. He further added that he himself is a great fan of the band and  if it’s anyone’s fault, it’s the production house – named Aardman Animations – that made the video, unless it was Coldplay’s own idea. 

PCB imposes fine on players failing their fitness tests

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)  has decided to impose a 15% fine on salary of players who will fail their fitness tests. PCB has stepped up its efforts to ensure that all players are well-conditioned for the upcoming tours. The players will be tested in five major areas namely fat analysis, strength, endurance, speed endurance and cross-fit, with all five areas carrying equal marks.

PAF inaugurates country’s first JF-17 Thunder integration facility

Pakistan Air Force (PAF) has inaugurated its JF-17 Integration Facility  in a bid to achieve self-reliance. Working under the Avionics Production Factory, the facility is located at Pakistan Aeronautical Complex in Kamra. With the first phase of trial tests already done in China, now Pakistan will be able to assemble, install, test and qualify advanced weapon packages and electronics subsystems at its own facilities.
