Miftah Ismail ‘ashamed’ over 47-year record-breaking inflation

Finance Minister Miftah Ismail on Friday said that he was ashamed over highest inflation during his tenure. The inflation has now broken a 47-year-old record after Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) data highlighted inflation at 27.3 percent on year-on-year basis in August 2022. Miftah calls for Jhagra to resign, Tarin to quit politics after audio leaks

Federal Finance Minister Miftah Ismail asked Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Finance Minister Taimur Khan Jhagra to resign and PTI Senator Shaukat Tarin to quit politics for trying to sabotage Pakistan’s interests after audio leaks of their conversation regarding the resumption of the crucial International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme surfaced on Monday. The federal minister alleged that Jhagra had sent the letter to the IMF before sending it to him.

PML-N leader Miftah Ismail arrested by NAB

PML-N leader and former finance minister, Miftah Ismail was arrested outside Islamabad High Court (IHC) by National National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Wednesday. Miftah was arrested after IHC rejected his request for an extension in his pre-arrest interim bail in the LNG import case. NAB is charging Miftah in connection with illegal awarding of LNG terminal-1 to Engro Energy Terminal Private Limited.
