Syed Ommer Amer becomes first Pakistani to win ‘MIL’ Award from UNESCO

UNESCO awarded Syed Ommer Amer the MIL award for his work in Daastan, making him the first Pakistani to receive the award. Daastan promotes media literacy throughout the country. Through the use of storytelling, the organization publishes books and organizes campaigns to promote intercultural discussion and peacemaking. Furthermore, MIL awards recognition leadership in five domains: educational research, policy, advocacy, media, and information technologies.

They have also held numerous events, including a symposium on the mental wellbeing of Pakistani journalists, which was co-led by an independent researcher, Ms. Fatima Misbah. In addition, Daastan is working to revive literature and connect authors with their work, helping them get published.
