It is estimated that Pakistan has total debt and liability exceeding 50.5 trillion Pakistani rupees (PKR). The official figures released on Wednesday indicated that PKR 20.7 trillion was added by the current government alone. The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has published the debt figures until September 2021. This comes after Prime Minister Imran Khan described the growing debt as a “national security issue”.
Statistics show that the total debt and public debt of Pakistan have increased since Imran Khan came to power. The country’s total debt increased by almost 70 percent.
