Messi to leave Barcelona due to ‘financial and structure obstacles’

Barcelona announced that Messi will leave despite a contract agreement between the two parties. Laliga cited economic and structural obstacles to the renewal of the contract. The Barcelona youth team recruited Messi at the age of 13 years old. He has scored 672 goals in 778 games across all competitions, making his way to the top of the club’s all-time scoring chart.

The Argentine forward was free to talk to other clubs about a transfer after his deal ended in June. However, Barcelona had always maintained that he wanted to stay in the club. Javier Tebas, the La Liga chief, said last month that Barcelona is in debt for more than 1 billion euros ($1.18 billion). The league would not show any leniency when it comes to its strict financial control rules.
